In many states, by law the same "doc fee" must be charged on all transactions. Dealers LOVE this - they point this out and shut down any attempt to negotiate it downward or eliminate it entirely.

But just because that fee is "non-negotiable", doesn't mean that the out-the-door, bottom-line price you're paying for the car isn't. That fee is 100% dealer profit. If you're buying a high-demand car that the dealer knows they'll sell almost immediately if you walk, then yeah good luck negotiating the amount of that fee out of your final deal. But if you're buying a high volume car off the lot - like an F-150 for example - you can absolutely include that figure in your negotiating when getting the price down as far as you can. You simply refuse to pay the additional amount and they can either reduce the bottom line by that amount, or negotiate something that gives up part of it. Or you can walk and go to another dealer that will give you a better final price. They are still charging you that fee so they're in compliance with the law - but taking a lower total for the car. Good luck making this happen on an M2 anytime soon though.

I work in the industry and have for over 30 years. I have never been employed by a dealership where the doc fee has not been preprinted on the bill of sale nor has it ever been negotiable. That includes the current BMW Center I am at, my third owned by the same corporation.

No need for the eyeroll, I wasn't disagreeing or arguing with you. Yeah, dealers often "template" the doc fee into the contract, especially where they are required by law to collect the same fee from everybody. My point was simply that just because you may be required to pay it, that doesn't mean the cost can't then come out of the top-line price of the car that the buyer negotiates.. or if not all of it, a portion of it. Whatever can be negotiated. If the dealer doesn't want to negotiate, the buyer can walk. If the dealer is in a position of strength with a hard-to-get car, you may be forced to pay MSRP or even more, or they may be happy to let you walk.

When I bought my M2c last year, I had a signed purchase agreement at MSRP. No dealer add-ons. The car came in, got PDI'd, and immediately put into the delivery area and I picked it up the next morning. I open the trunk and first think I see is a stupid VIN tag from one of the ripoff VIN etching services, that they wanted to stick me for $295 for. I asked the CA why this was there, on an ordered car that shouldn't have received any add-ons? Uh.. "it's templated onto all our contracts, all our cars are sold that way." Fuck that. "Well then the F&I criminal can simply reduce the top-line price by that amount, because I'm not paying it." And I didn't. AND her statement that it was templated onto the contract turned out to be a lie anyways. The reason I refer to him as the "F&I criminal" is he tried to rip me off in several different ways that I won't bore you with here. I hate (most) of these people with a passion.

It is highly unlikely given that the 2023 price increases were previously announced. Furthermore, a G87 price increase announcement would have already been made for January.

FYI, the BMW USA configurators were down last weekend to update the pricing. It now reflects the pricing for 2023.

It is highly probable for MY 2024. It will not happen prior to then. The state of the economy will certainly play a factor.

Doubtful it will be this week given that it is a short work week. Many corporate offices are closed today. If U.S. G87 allocations drop this month it will be sometime in 9th thru the 20th timeframe.
