Production number and allocation are the same thing, if you have a production number then you already have an allocation

Dang, was hoping you'd say VB or JG. Really want to see those colors on the G87. Looking forward to seeing more cars with silver wheels. Black has been the trend for over a decade now and I've gone with black wheels for years, but if I'm being honest I'm over it. Silver is going to be a welcomed return to yesteryears.

I was truly on the fence with VB, if I’d had the option of silverstone interior, I likely would have gone with VB.

I went to the dealership yesterday and got on the list for when they can officially place orders.

I hate that BMW has some nice colors making it very difficult to decide on one.

Basically between JG, ZB, and Frozen Gray

Really want Gold/Bronze wheels and I feel like they would look best on the green or gray.

If it's not going to add ~3 months to the build, I'm almost positive I will go with Voodoo Blue now. I'm first on the list at my dealer, so hopefully it won't take long to get an allocation.

Yeah, a production number means that BMW has accepted the order and allocated a build slot.

Now when they will build it is a different story, but they have agreed that your configuration is valid and they will build it.

It’s not a complete mystery though, all allocations/prod. numbers have a production month associated with them.

For example, this first batch is for August production, meaning the cars will finish production sometime in August. Now whether it’s the first week or the last week of August is unknown until further along.

i hope for everyone's sake they have the shipping logistics hammered out a bit better now- so you all can enjoy the new cars in early fall... would suck to have the first batch not arrive until the end of driving season

If you’re ever in the NYC / LI area, shoot me a PM. Would be great to sort this out in person instead of hiding behind keyboards. Until then, let’s just stop the cowardice and move on.

The production number is not fixed to a week. It is possible to go from "order accepted" to "scheduled for production" and back.

The week when you get a production number is a proposed week and nothing else. Depending on "just in time" parts arrival and supply chain issues that week means nothing.

How do I know?
Check the i4 threads and I possibly have the longest wait for an i4 to arrive. We suspect they kept having 20" wheel production issues, but it's was never clear. My car was more than a year late.

Bitter is not an accurate description for someone who thinks a car you own is unattractive. You may think that person is wrong, fine, as preferences are subjective. But that’s not bitter. I personally feel BMW has taking a radical design turn that is a significant departure from the subtle evolution we’ve seen in the past…and they’re doubling down with these recent face lifts. I think it’s too loud and too brutish, but again, that’s just my opinion. I think the driving experience becoming more “refined” has removed a lot of the thrill, and I think the massive screen will not age well over time and the heavy dominance of “in your face” tech will date the car. You may not care about that as you may only own it for a few years, but I do.

Saying a car is superior simply because of lap times / HP numbers is just inaccurate - if that was the case, then many boring EVs are superior to your M2, and your M2 is superior to every E46/E9X/etc., and that’s also just not true. You don’t drive cars on paper, stats are nice but driving experience is so much more than that.

I wish this forum’s news section would feature content on the older generations more often - the only reason folks who don’t own these cars traffic in these threads occasionally is because the forum always has the latest in our faces. Would be nice to see some E46-F8X content featured here and there. But anyways, all of this started over a simple comment about the auto industry slowing down, rates about to work down, and dealer incentive behavior increasing…and it turned into what has now become the most unproductive waste of time / distraction. I didn’t intend for that, but clearly an emotional topic for folks. So be it, drive your car, enjoy it, and use the forum as a helpful source for info / community / etc. All tbe best to you guys.

Correct, I didn’t say it had a specific week, but it does have a specific MONTH. Unexpected setbacks can change it, yes, but it’s actually pretty rare in the grand scheme of things.

It sounds like your i4 order timeline was extremely atypical, and not a good basis for the timeline of most vehicle orders.

How do I know?

I’m in sales at a BMW store, I look at the DAR every day.

No, that experience was extremely typical of the i4 M50, especially for pre-orders. They couldn't build enough and we had customers waiting nearly a year to get their pre-order i4 M50.

Less so with the i4 eDrive40, but that was also problematic.

I was on the forums and got my car a year late. It was a crap shoot until you actually got a VIN and a chassis. Anything could happen prior to that.

Mine was a day 1 preorder, June 2021.
I didn't get a car until March 10, 2023.

I'm just saying, in the worst case a production number only means that BMW AG has agreed to build you a car, but that proposed date is just a projection and is not necessarily tied to reality. That may not be the case for the M2 because they are building them already and they may have learned something from the disaster of a launch that was the i4.

Hi all,

Whatever your views, may I please remind everyone of the forum rules and specifcially the below:

Quote:

1) Respect. By far the most important rule here. Through the generations of BMW, enthusiasts have come together for the love of the car and the community. So the basic rules of real life apply here, show each other respect and you will get respect as well. Don't bash someone else here because you feel like it. Derogatory or insulting remarks will not be tolerated. This applies to all corners of the site - including posts, profile visitor messages, and thread tags.

3) Disagree, don't attack. Disagree on topics, but try to leave it at that. Just because you don't like someones opinion on the car's engine, doesn't mean you should call him and his mother all sorts of names Disagreements are awesome, and you should call someone on something you don't agree with, but don't go out of your way to insult and flame someone. Please consider if you would say to someone's face the same thing you are posting.
Thanks, Mani
