The 50th emblem looks pretty good on the body but on the center caps of the wheels as seen in some pix it looks very silly, like some kids fun fair ride.
I’m not sure they took that pic. Looks like something given to them from BMW. At least that’s my initial assumption.

Tire size confirmation

Finally found a pic that had enough resolution to just barely make out and confirm the front tire size, 275/35 ZR 19 which is the same as the M3/4 running 19/20 wheels. Unfortunately I couldn't find any pic to see the rear size, but it's not a big leap to surmise they will be 285/30 ZR 20, just like the M3/4.

Apologies ahead of time as I realize this question was most likely already covered but is there anyway on God's green earth they will offer the manual tranny w/ xdrive?

I'm not really hip on why it isn't offered with xdrive on the G80/G82 but I thought it had more to do with the higher output of the S58 in the competition trims, makes no sense to me why they can't couple manual transmissions with AWD.

No xDrive and most of us prefer it that way.

Thanks for the response. Guess I'm in the minority as far as being interested in a manual w/ xdrive (sorry if this offends any BMW RWD drive M car purists out there &#129315. Any technical reason BMW isn't doing it?

I think the two biggest reasons are price point and weight savings.

They also want to keep the M2 a car for the enthusiast.

Probably also just don’t have a transmission that can do that. The AWD system is set up with the zf8 in mind.

Aside from the added weight of AWD you also lose interior space. The 2 Series is fairly small to begin with. Compare the interior space of the M240i to the 230i and you'll see how much space is lost on the M240i which has xDrive.

One other thing to mention, since the M2 will not come standard with a sunroof headroom should also better.

Are those F87 numbers also with a sunroof?

F87 did not come with a sunroof unless it was added to the build. The measurements are without.

Edit Re iDrive updates. If we look to the past, iDrive gets a fairly large overhaul every 3-4 years and sometimes an LCI is uninvolved.
Yeah I'm def not looking forward to buttonless HVAC/radio, etc. I think my Mazda CX50 nails a perfect balance between screen/physical controls, and I think BMW even had a good balance. It's good to hear they at least recognize it may have went overboard with screens. We'll see where that takes us.

Well, I too would not mind having a x-Drive MT M2. My current 18' LCI M2 is the 1st non-AWD car I have had since I bought a 95' Eclipse GSX, but I decided since I was keeping my 11' 335xi MT, I went ahead and got the M2. But I too had inquired about the possibility of an M2 x-Drive. In my inquiries I was told that the MT they use is only rated to about 473 HP. That is why in the M3 & M4, if I remember that discussion I had at the dealership, that the competitions on have AT. Like I said, I am not sure if I remember the the "473 HP" number correctly, but the logic is believable. I have read the G87 M2 Competition will be somewhere between 440 and 455 HP, which is why the MT will be available (hopefully that is true).

I think the limitation for MT has more to do with the torque than hp. The base M3/4 have 473hp, but the torque is only 406 lb-ft. The Competition models have 503hp, but most notably torque is 479 lb-ft. This is purely speculative on my part, but I'd bet a M2C will get the same S58 variant as the M3/4C that has been detuned. If so the MT would not be able to handle the extra torque.

My guess is that the G82C will get the base G82 S58 tune making an MT possible if BMW so wishes.

I believe you are correct 'cause they beef up the clutch itself on the G8X but used the same manual transmission as the last couple of generations..

I believe when they did the R&D many years ago, the determined this same manual transmission they been recycling maxes out at around 400 HP/TQ and they never tried test it beyond that.

So any new manual model is going to be electronically capped at roughy 400hp/TQ however they want to package and market this.

The 763M wheels, any color is my favorite BMW wheels, very BBS like and it looks like I have some good news; it appears the M850 version of 763Ms comes in a 5x112 offset, same as the next gen M2..

So if the price is right, you can preserve and throw on some 763Ms on an G87.. 😎

Can't run them without spacers on F & R. The G80/82 are on ET20 F & R. The F87 are F ET29, R ET40. The worst part is that the 763M setup (9J & 10J) is not wide enough to support the new tyre sizes without sacrificing handling. You need wheel widths of at least 9.5J & 10.5J.
