The software/graphics/interfaces/digital gauges look way better on iDrive8 vs iDrive7 but that kickstand is absolutely unacceptable. That's some of the worst screen integrations I've seen on any vehicle.
People used to complain about how infotainment screens looked like iPads that were simply "stuck-on". I'd say this is far worse. |

Graphics look great and software looks like it's a big step from iD7, not a fan of how the screen is just placed on the dash board though.

That being said, I do like tech (I spent a small fortune making my home a "smart home" and Google knows everything about me) so if it does what it was intended to do and does it well, I will be OK with it. |

Talking to some ID8 users on the i4, the main problems are actually the many annoying bugs, the most common ones being: black display, auto restart for no reason, conflict with Spotify and Android auto, navigation system malfunction, climate blowing air even when turned off (not sure if the latter is related to the ID8 though).
They will surely be resolved in the future, but as of today the situation is terrifying, a video of a few seconds cannot be considered a complete user experience. It reminds me the first iDrive, very scenic at first glance but terrible to use, later improved over the years. |

I’m not a fan of the design but it’s what we are stuck with. There might be a chance that the screen gets updated by the time the LCI comes out.I’m hoping it gets integrated better into the dash.Right now i am more concerned about being able to do the BimmerCode coding changes with idrive 8.I have been reading that it might be difficult for them to figure out how to do it.I still don’t get why they didn’t at least have the kickstand fully covered like the X7 LCI.

I just want to know if the Kickstand is adjustable and what range of tilt it offers.
All kidding aside, I really dislike the idea of having to get behind the screen to clean it. I imagine it will be a dust/lint magnet, as will the kickstand arms. Perhaps we'll see some creative mods/kits lol. |

Just drove our first '23 M3 with iD8 to get a feel for the gauges.
Overall they look good...not great. I prefer "sport" mode much more than "track", where they give you the single RPM gauge in the center. One thing I don't like (at least in this auto M3) was the fact that it would show the gear (D1, S2, etc) in a larger font than your digital speed. Doesn't make much sense to me. I assume that won't be an issue with a 6mt G87. iD8 will still be a learning curve. |

All I know is that as soon as available, I'm buying a replacement screen to squirrel away because I don't want to be scrounging for one in 20 years.
Speaking of 20 years, look how hideous the early nav systems are in things like the Z4. What's this going to be like in 20 years?
