Totally agree! Aesthetically….it's just awful! Not even sure if this is a BMW!! :

Dumbfounded how this crude and unsophisticated design made it pass a rendering, less get corporate and marketing buy-in. Beyond its appearance, they went cheap on everything from the repurposing of 240i's headlights, rear lights, hood and trunk to the lack of badging, removal of faux side vents, etc. A lack of finesse everywhere, in the most mundane things like the parking sensors that look like an afterthought to odd proportion of front and rear bumper to a poorly executed transition between the rear quarter panel and running board.

Then they choose the most unflattering color to reveal it. Almost seems like BMW didn't give a chit about this car.
Perhaps BMW should try and save face by telling everyone the M2 design approval was fast tracked during COVID.
Best course was to delay the Reveal slightly to refine and iron out the things mentioned here. Bimmerpost is almost unanimous on how awful the rear looks on this car, so it's not like the opinion it's just shared by a few performance nuts, it's expressed on YouTube, Instagram, on other forums; in the BMW community in general. What else do you need to know you are releasing something unattractive? Number on rule of design: never design in a vacuum!

If BMW is so disconnected from the performance customer it won't consider our feedback and opinions, then let chit show Press caravan ensue.

The Ultimate Driving Machine moniker will go to a clown car: a dog-faced bone-shaped rear of a disjointed smurf blue kit car mess.

Who knows, tomorrow we may all be pleasantly surprised but these leaked pics have put a damper on my enthusiasm. One things for sure, October 12 will be a fun day on Bimmerpost lol
They will do no such thing. Internet forums can whine about the ass design for the next eternity and this thing will still go on sale as is on time. Reviewers will also praise the performance while noting the looks are "subjective". Then it will sell like hot cakes.

Basically going to follow the same plan as m3/m4.
Brother, ugly isn't subjective. A big nose with a pimple is UGLY. Performance alone can't carry an M2. Every M2 before it has been an exercise in balance and aesthetics and while you can't listen to everyone's opinion or design by committee ( I know being an Architect), you certainly must listens to your client. When you don't, you loose business.

Reviewers may rave at the performance but I can't compel to buy a car that doesn't visually appeal to me.

If BMW has stopped listening to customers (online forum posters included), they will continue to produce forgettable designs and dilute brand further.

The XM, while unaffordable to most and quiet different from other BMW's before it, manages to be unique and aggressive without looking like an f-ing joke. So to me, good design is alive and well at BMW, but sometimes a company and Designers need to know when they go astray.

You vote with your wallet if you like the car, I'll do the same.

I don't care what anyone thinks, I am still getting one. Probably in ZB or AW. May be this back lash, will drop some of my wait list and I can get one sooner.
I will be at the BMW reveal in person this weekend in Greer and at the BMWCCA event next door.

Wow. Guess they've been busy in the paint booth changing all the ZB cars to TR
If true, they are taking the pulse of the community and performance base, telling them this blue sucks the wazoo.

I agree but they don't care what it looks like if it sells period. Again the G80 is a great example of this. Ugly ass grills, no dct, and awd. All things people complained about here. Yet demand is still high for it.

Looks *are* subjective. Personally I think the G87 looks like a beast. IMO the previous 2 series had a frumpy rear end, especially the non-M variants. But I won't tell you it's objectively UGGGLLYY. Since, you know, it's subjective.

Hope it looks better in white or black in person. That baby blue is just a bad color for this type of car.

G80 had a similar effect - looked very bad in leaked pictures but when I saw it in person first time, I was actually impressed.

Time will tell. I hope it looks better in person like the G42, but something tells me that rear will be a big pimple on the ass of this car. Maybe beefing up the rear diffuser and removing the dog bone affect by aligning the trunk fender bottom with and side taillight elements; making all three flow into each other.

I think you're right.

The front looks unfinished, if that makes sense. The rear is overdone.

Just not a good looking car - I am sure the launch photos and videos will make it look (somewhat) better, but she's not very pretty.

As I told another poster, there are some things that are ugly to most folks; and that's what is considered ugly. Some outliers in a group won't change that. The rear end on this vehicle is such a beast from opinions expressed on this forum and other online venues I peruse. Yes, looks are subjective…but to a point. There are some cars that are "almost" universally considered ugly like the aforementioned Pontiac Aztec.

F80 was the last good looking M. Wish I hadn't sold mine. Damn it.

Wanted to like the G87 so much, but this latest reveal is only reinforcing to me how bad it looks, regardless of how it might drive.

When did BMW hire Scion's defunct design team? This design is total garbage. I generally reserve judgement until I see it in person, but I'm not blind enough to look past this. It's just straight up ugly.
