For real. People, I want to talk about cars. I don't give a flying F what the race, weight, or age of the reviewer is. It demeans us all to go down this road.

I preordered my G87 and love it to death. I don't need Chris Harris to affirm my choice. So it's not terribly valuable to me, personally.

But there ARE people who are 1) on the fence and 2) have the same tastes as Chris, and for those people this review will be genuinely useful.

Chris deserves neither to be defied nor demonized, he's a car dude on the internet. There's nothing more to it than that.

This right here. My goodness - so many of you people live and die by the opinions of others. "Chris Harris is the boss", "Only review that matters", "This is what I've been waiting for". Jesus Christ. What if he hated it? What does it matter to your enjoyment? Some of you have some hilarious insecurity.

I swear most people are more concerned with what a review tells them their car is vs what they get out of it, or more importantly what they can actually do with it. Who care's if CH said it was good or bad? If you like the looks - great, get it, if you don't - don't. If you think it drives well on the street, you feel comfortable pushing on streets (which is nowhere near even 7-8/10ths of the capability), and it gets your stuff around - fantastic. Great car for you. If he said it sucked - does it take away from your actual experience?

I'd be willing to bet most couldn't get close to understanding the chassis dynamics he's talking about at the limit. Few of you can slide a car as effortlessly as him. Most could barely get around a track in a manual one of these, without rev matching, in a reasonably fast time - in something this capable. Don't worry about the opinions of vastly better drivers.

I have an F80, a car mostly panned by most reviewers and M car owners - ironically except for by Harris. It worked for my needs - manual, 4 doors, a tiny bit raw, power beyond my previous car. Who cares what reviewers said about it? Honestly, it's fine - it's got a lot of flaws in addition to what it does well. It's a good car, not even close to being the pinnacle of what a great sports car is.

Harris says the M2 is 'the best car' - lol, for what, for who? I'll take the dynamics, feel, and engagement of a 981 GT4 any day over any M car - and it has less than 400hp. That's my opinion and personal experience having driven it back to back with F80s, G80s, and etc. That's the experience I'll discuss and debate. You all should debate that too, not touch yourselves because Harris validated your decision.

Could care less that he's late coming out with a review, what matters to me is he had the car and used it for several months. Not like other reviewers that drove it for a couple of hours.
Love that he gave us a 60? day or so “ownership” experience. I also laughed when he said he was out of rear tire. Dudes a beast

Think he had it for at least three months, took another two months for the video to drop. It was awesome seeing him slide the car around the track. Love when they flog cars in reviews because they're meant to be driven hard, they have to be able to take the abuse without overheating, breaking down, etc. The slo-mo video of it is also just badass.

We've had our cars for 6-7 months now and then the review comes, it's a bit late. I already know that and more. We've been "long terming" for longer than he has. What's the point of a car review of a car that's been out for a while.
I mean, would you watch a review of the G80 M3 at this point? It's a bit more irrelevant, do you know what I mean? If I'm watching a G80 review today, I'm looking forward to seeing something no one has shown before.

Keep in mind that reviews help people decide on purchases. Maybe a potential future M2 see this review and it helps them take that step into ownership.

I feel like you aren’t seeing the long view here. Rather just criticizing someone who had an opinion and chose to reveal that opinion.

I think it’s refreshing to see a black on black manual reviewed as well.

i will say i do love "retrospective" reviews- when the final version of a cars production run is looked back on with a bit more experience, miles accumulated on the fleet, new competitors on the block etc. and then again reviews 10-15+ years after the car has been out of production.

what aged well? what was the known major achilles heels (think E46 big 3)? how did the interior hold up, the styling etc

all this to say i think reviews of great cars at different points in the lifecycle is important for not just how the car is remembered but how it is priced on the secondary market going forward. i'd argue harris should have waited a few years if he really wanted to make a splash lol

The answer is somewhere in between.

I think he's just a dude with a production team saying what he thinks of a car to a camera and a microphone... Take it for what it is.

I like all reviewers... They're just people speaking to who is willing to listen to them. When they talk about our cars, we usually tune in to see what they have to say.

Agree he's 8-10 months too late to the party, and I think he knew that, as he already had material none of the original reviewers did (the "hate" from the bros). But he didn't call my mother any names, so I don't hate him. It was fun to watch... Don't regret watching it. I actually watched it twice. (I think I watched the Throttle House one more times though)
I’m not angry at him. I feel sorry for the guy. The UK reviewers, him included, were great in years past.

But the world has moved on. Sliding a car around is cool, but it can’t be the only thing.

If this review was 7 months ago, when we knew little about the G87, it would have been passable.

But when you hype your review with trailers and the like and you are so late vs all the others, either put out new valuable info or don’t bother.

I guess I’m just disappointed with myself that I fell for the hype. The reviews from Hagggerdy, Motor Trend et al are so much more informative.

Chris, go open a restaurant or something. Your time as a car reviewer has come and gone.

Cheers.

So, yeah. But don't take my criticism too seriously. I liked the video and found it entertaining.
I have respect for you that you grabbed the m2- having been driving it and feel you have a view point on this review. I don’t have an m2 just yet- but this review helped me see the really rational points about the driving and not get embroiled in the looks aspect that we all debate.

What happened is that all of the haters who flooded this site with negatively for several months saw a front page article and proceeded to again spew their uninformed b.s.

They've been proven wrong by review after review from journalists, bloggers, and owners alike. So since they can no longer credibly say ridiculous things like ... "the Supra will kick the G87's ass" .... or "the S55 would overpower the S58 " ... or "the G87 is heavier than a Ford Lightning EV" .... they have to resort to personal attacks on Chris Harris. AYFKM? Chris has more success in a single day than they've had in their mother's basement in 10 years since graduating from H.S.

Let's hope they go back to their basements and back to their video games and leave us enthusiasts and actual owners alone.

Enough already!

Some of the posts were outright hostile, really strange.

On a plus note the G87 looks better in person than it does in photos, I drove one a couple weeks ago and it drives pretty damn good too.

Savagegeese are great as is Chris Harris. Reviews are rolling in and the G30 and G87 are both excellent modern cars even if the polarizing designs.

I'm hopeful that we get a competition but some of the info says we won't. Could also use some better colors.

Unbelievable people exist spending big money on a car and need conformation from a paid car journalist.

What’s unbelievable is that it seems no one can say anything bad about the G87. Everyone’s free to have their opinion. No need for anyone to be immature about how they react to someone who doesn’t like the look or how it drives. I didn’t know BMW owners are kids who play video games in the parents’ basement. Grow up and respect that not everyone will like your car of choice regardless of what any reviewer (paid or not) say.

Peace.

Watch savage geese reviews from 5 years ago and Chris Harris reviews from 5 years ago... one is a random guy from the midwest w a go pro who did reviews on Camrys in a monotone voice, the other is an all out enthusiast w actual race car experience and has hosted the most renowned auto shows. in the world.

That's not to say folks can't improve over the years and savage geese has but his opinion will never be as strong to me as someone w chris's background. Savage has a Civic Type R so we can argue he is an enthusiast... we also know he got the car at 0 markup thru a connection early on... of course he will plug the car positively. All of his Toyota / Lexus videos fell in the same bucket... an LC500 to him was an LFA yet an m5 comp was an isolated German experience lol... he also somehow thought anyone who drove an F gen M3 apparently liked raves and techno for some reason.
