How do I convince the wife to trade her Fit for an SI?
Help me out here!!
I used to have a civic Si, really liked it..replaced it with the 335. So we bought the wife a Honda Fit (auto) and she's happy as a pig driving it..thing is she works in the city and really only takes it around shopping on the weekends. She's not a car nut, as long as it gets her around she's cool. So..I want to get a civic Si sedan as our DD and am trying to talk her into it. She will say no because she doesn't want to learn stick and she likes the utility of the Fit. We don't haul anything, and she should know how to drive stick... Any ideas? I don't want to hear..let her drive what she wants. She doesn't care. It's more of convincing her that stick is funnnn. Yes, I'm a selfish bastard. |

I've never understood guys who drive cars that are substantially nicer than their wives. Ok, so shes not into cars, fine, you can't get her a 325? Doesn't she deserve it? And then after making her drive an econo-box, an econo-box she loves, you want to force her to learn to drive stick so you can have a second car that you like. Yes, selfish is the proper word. |

No need in spending big (sorta) money on a car that'll be used 5 miles a week.
I do think it's a bit ridiculous to make her learn how to do something that she doesn't want to do so that you can have a car you want. THEN AGAIN, if she just so happens to be one of those drivers that can't put down the cell phone, mascara, etc. whilst driving then I suggest you do all that is within your power to get her to change her mind. Just don't do it for selfish reasons though. Not fair for her.

I remember growing up and my dad would always try to get me to convince my mom to get the other car he wanted to have. Granted, it never really worked, but I see where the OPs coming from.
However, you're never going to get a woman who doesn't want to drive stick to drive a stick. So until they make an Si in automatic (which will never happen), you're completely SOL. If you're hellbent on having a cheap, light, nimble, pocket rocket in the house, there are some auto options out there thatmight suit your needs, but they aren't wearing honda badges.

Total agree ^
But again. In long term you will be a happy man if you leave your wife to be who she is. Look at the girl. Get he something she will love instead - even if its not something you love.

The money saved on the Fit pays for 335 mods anyway.

Keep the Fit. My fiance has an rsx type-s that I'm driving most of the time (she takes the train to work downtown) and if she wanted to trade it for a fit I'd say go ahead. Its cheaper, easier on gas, cheaper to insure, etc. Not to mention it will make you appreciate the 335 that much more when you drive it.

I'd keep the Fit. I don't know how many times we ended up needing a utility vehicle because we were buying some large or bulky items...

You drive what you want, so let her drive what ever she wants to drive. I am sure she's old enough to make her own decisions.
