GT350R Road & Track's Performance Car of the Year.

Quite impressive especially considering the company it was up against.

I do realize that this track ready beast of a car's purpose is much more than straight line speed but I feel compelled to bring it up....

12.3 @ 117.9 are underwhelming numbers IMO. Granted, the R is ~150 lbs heavier than a 6MT M3/4. I just assumed a car making over 500 HP and wearing PS Cup 2 rubber would break into to the 11's @ around 120 mph.

What the hell do I know?

I think the low torque is the reason the acceleration figures don't match up with your expectations. If you want to compare to the M3/4 the S55 makes well over BMW's quoted 410lb/ft. Most M3/4s make 400-410lb/ft at the wheels which is closer to 475lbft at the flywheel. 150lbs of weight and a 40+lb/ft torque advantage is enough to make a pretty noticeable difference in 0-60 and 1/4 mile. 12.3 is actually pretty strong if Ford's torque number is accurate at the flywheel, especially since the ford doesnt make that until nearly 5000rpm, vs 1800rpm for the S55

Just for reference R&T got 12.3 & 114.9 with the 2015 M3 (DCT).

Not sure were they do these 1/4 tests, certainly doesn't seem like a prepped track.

If I not mistaken this is first published lap times against competition for the GT350R.

.5 sec quicker than AMG GTS and 1.5 sec quicker than Cayman GT4.

I think this is the point that needs to be emphasized more. Straight line numbers aren't great (MT is just slow possibly) but the track numbers are outstanding. Beating the GT4 by that margin is huge specially when its 30k less.

Well that puts to rest any disappointment I had with the R....114.9 trap for a DCT f80 is very low. Is R&T performing these runs on dirt roads, let alone an unprepped track?

Yeah. Also considering the ATS-V has been out lapping the M3/M4 in tests and the GT350R was almost 6 sec quicker than the ATS-V coupe. It really puts into perspective it's performance at the track. This car is quite impressive.

Very impressive. I can see a lot of E9x M3 owners appreciating this car over the M3/4

And the new Camaro SS can turn the 12.3/12.4 times @ ~114 mph and its rated 455/455 HP and torque. It actually brakes just slightly better than the gt350R, which I would have thought this car would be under 100ft from 60 MPH.

I'm sure its good for 11s in the right hands. 117 trap is good for 11.9, plenty of CTS-Vs and ZL1's have made it with that trap speed.

I'd like to see what this car does on a race track.

It's a track car not a drag car. I can't believe this comes up. I can give a crap about 1/4 mile times in my 15 Z/28. It's not the car's purpose.

This is what it does on a racetrack. Beats the AMG GT-s and the GT4. Impressive if you ask me.

I still can't justify $70k for a Mustang. I'm not a buyer anyway, but even if I were, I would not be looking at this car for $70k

I think the baseline Mustang GT350 starts at $48k which is about the same as M235i + Diff.

Even $48k for a Mustang is no bueno for me. I love them (Owned 5 so far), but much better cars available for this kind of $ IMO.

The world has come FULL CIRCLE. Back when I first started getting interested in BMWs, the fanboys always argued that BMWs are faster around the "twisties" and "anyone can drive fast in a straight line" when compared to the 'Merkin muscle cars like the Cobras and Firebirds.

Now we're proud of the fact that BMWs can go in a straight-line just as fast, but can't keep up in the twisties.

Yay.

If I had all the free time, I might look. However, I never said it had to be new. I let others take that hit.
