Any Other Indie Artists Here?
I've dabbled on and off with the piano most of my life and wrote a few songs along the way. Any time the topic came up and someone wanted to hear something I've done, I had to find a working cassette desk (which was no small feat). So a couple of years ago, I thought it was long overdue to put all my existing works on a CD.
I bought everything I needed to do this myself in my basement. I bought a piano, a synthesizer, a microphone, effects unit, studio monitors and a 24 track mixer/recorder/CD burner. It was my intention that the next time someone asked me about my music, I could simply give them a CD. Just as I was getting started, I ran into someone at the grocery store who said he just built a recording studio. I thought to myself "Right. You just did what I did. You bought recording gear, set it up in some room and are calling it a recording studio." Turns out I couldn't have been more wrong. It was a full-fledged professional studio. A couple more conversations with this guy and I realized I'd have a much better quality product than I could do on my own, so, BOOM! I went from initially intending to hand out free CD-Rs to a packaged CD with a barcode available for sale on Amazon as well as digital distribution at Google Play, Apple's iTunes, et al. I even bought the rights to remake an old Scorpions tune from the 80s. Samples of all the songs on the album are contained in this YouTube clip. [u2b]https://youtu.be/46ldqbtb-dE[/u2b] HOLD ON! This isn't the shameless plug it seems. The whole experience has opened my eyes and ears to Indie musicians. So I genuinely want to know if anyone here has done anything similar and would care to share their art. |

I believe Axius is an indie artist in his own right. Primarily known for his greatest hit - "Cat on a hot tin roof".
Rumour has it he's much better at paintings than vocals though.... |

I'm not an artist, but I work for a professional audio manufacturer and run a mastering studio business on the side: https://www.facebook.com/4130mastering/

I bet you could. It may just take a little more effort and a bit more time.

One of my childhood friends is awesome and he's been getting back into the groove of it, slowly. But I'm pretty occupied with other areas of my life that require more effort for me to invest too much into it again.

Now I've got a check mark next to a bucket list item but I don't have the patience to go through all that again. On a side note, since you're into Rap/Hip Hop, my significantly younger brother made a video for one of his songs... |
