Hi all. I am a student pilot. Thought I'd see if any pilots wanted to say Howdy to a student- And give some advice on what plane to think about purchasing when I get my license.

Hey Wingman! I'm a pilot for the military. It all depends on what you plan on using the plane for, and how far you plan on going with your license. Are you going to get your instrument ratings, multi-engine, type ratings, ect? The other big question is how much are you willing to spend? If you're just going to get your PPL, then I'd go with a low wing single engine (very vague I know). I'll try to compile a more detailed list for you with specific aircraft. Welcome to the world of flying!!! How far into things are you?

Much thanks. Getting license for leisure flying. Mostly East coast. At 25 hours. Probably soloing in next few weeks. Training in a 172. Was thinking of a 10/15 year old 182 maybe. Lots of planes out there.

I'm trying to find a safe bet. I know there is quite a bit I don't know. Hard to buy used cars. Buying a used plane is going to be tough. Easy to buy new. You've got to know your stuff to buy used. Or get lucky. Flying is great. Wish I started 20 years ago.

I have a PPL (ME rating too) but in NZ. I have not transferred it to the US yet, but I really should get onto that.

Can't advise on planes any better than what's been mentioned. A Piper Archer is good to fly, but lower powered than the 182 you mentioned.

Here in Texas though, I feel I need something bigger and faster - takes ages to get out of this state!

I'm a commercially rated pilot. Have about 350 hours.

I did most of my training in a 172 steam gauges, instrument in a 172 G1000, and my commercial in an Arrow II.

Also have about 10 hours of acrobatics in a Grob 115C.

I can't help with ownership though, as I don't fly often enough to justify a purchase, I just rent.

The aviation community is a really tight knit community and really good people.

After you get your license, slowly venture out further and further and expand your knowledge and experience.

Always keep your personal minimums close to you and slowly expand as your experience increases.

Enjoy the trip! It's an exciting. Started in C-150s, been paid for flying now for the last 14 years.

Never stop learning. You never know enough. You have two buckets, an experience bucket and a luck bucket. Make sure your experience bucket is full before your luck bucket is empty.

Diamond DA40, Cirrus SR22 or Mooney Acclaim. All are awesome IMO. For fun though, I don't think there is anything cooler than the new Icon A5

It really depends on what you're willing to spend on an aircraft and what's the mission at hand.

Is this something you'd like to use to get you from point A to point B as fast as possible? Or is it a slow and low kind of airplane? The good news is that there are a bunch of airplanes that will suit your need... The good news is that you have a lot of options to chose from . I suggest you fly/try out as many airplanes as you can before deciding on owning one. If you're ever in the So Cal area, come look me up. Will be more than happy to take you up in a DA-40, C-182RG, or a DA-42.

I'm a pilot as well. Although I don't fly much these days, sadly.

I need to find the time to fly more and have been thinking about buying an older PA28-181 or C172 or maybe even a nice C152 to dick around in.

It's a light sport but you can outfit it for PP use. Not really a cross country plane but looks fun as hell.

you're going to actually purchase a plane? I know a few commercial pilots and they all rent them when needed for personal purposes.

I'm not in the industry at all, but if owning a boat is any indicator, this will be one expensive ownership experience.
