That was a good episode. I was hoping they went with a truly "expensive" muffler setup though. $200 is cheap compared to our $800+ muffler systems on this platform.

I wouldn't call this a "cheap vs expensive" muffler test. It's just a straight through vs baffled muffler review.
Our "$800 muffler systems" are expensive because they're custom built to fit our cars. They are not universal.

No surprise on test results. I'm not an engineer but it's all about the flow.
The cheap mufflers design was obviously going to restrict power. I bet if they found an ebay straight through muffler design, it would be comparable to the Magniflows. As for the diameter, it didn't make a difference on this engine...but something with forced induction it could make all the difference. It just goes to show that bigger isn't always better. It's more about how its done and the true flow and engineering behind it. |
