Yeah, I also hear $320,000 for the SL65 Black. That's a lot of money for a Mercedes SL

Well it certainly will be above $200 grand (don't think over $300 though). But this fella is quite the SL. It is a hard top with CF, all areas are reworked so that the chassis is much, much lighter, better balanced and more rigid, powerful engine, reworked and entirely new suspension, 5 speed gear box, differential, CC Brakes, etc…, etc…!! Performance wise it’s hell of an improvement comparable to any other supercar and looks are fabulous.

yeah too bad the power is almost useless besides in a straight line.. i remember when a 65 was tested and a 335 beat it on the track because the track was all about turns.. the sl65 of can't turn for crap and this new one won't either.. when you push the throttle out of a turn it is almost impossible to keep it in a straight line even when half depressed.. i LOVE that engine.. but it is soooo impractical.. they need an awd system in that car and that takes away too much fun kicking out the back end.. but once you do kick out the back end look out.. that car will be headed for a wall and at 180k or so for an sl65 currently.. it's not worth it.. i would rather have an f430 or a 911 turbo which is faster anyways.. i wish merc knew how to make a car handle.. and we have 2 s55's and an s63.. i know amg's oh too well

IMO yes, its better looking, just a bit less power but more torque and better tranny and probably as good (if not better) chassis and way, way less expensive!

Mercedes AMG is working on the replacement of the SLR just as you mention: It will have a twin trubo chareged 6.2 liter V8 currently used in most of the AMG line up but is supposed to generate at least 750bhp in one version and as much a 1,000 bhp in another. This new car will be build entirely at AMG instead of the McLaren Center. Here is a couple of pics of what it could look like (it will be a mid engine set up):

it would be nice if they offered a real transmission in a sports car for once instead of an autmatic. Why not offer both? What a joke that is.

Yep, this is somewhat true but IMO Mercedes-AMG makes the best auto transmission out there. I love the way it works and when put in manual mode, it will not up shift unless you do so. They also hold gears very, very well through corners when in Sport mode etc... so, I'm generally very pleased with MB-AMG auto tranny's.
