Repair & Insurance Question
Just dropped me e92 335d into the local dealer this morning - someone reversed into me and it's gone in to have a new bumper fitted under the culprit's insurance.
Although the bumper is a scuffed and has an irrepairable crease in it, I expressed an interest in keeping it once it's replaced (never know when it may come in handy, or may be able to sell it as a spare). I was told no, as it is 'technically' the property of the insurance company. Not having any experience of this before, can anyone tell me if this is correct or just dealer bull? BTW - got given a Merc CSL for a rental car. Surprising what you can get when you stick to your guns and say no to the options they try to give you (3 door hatch, A Class, E class)! |

Yes it definitely belongs to the insurance company and, whilst they'll probably have no use for it, they may want to see it as verification that the work they paid for has been done. It's the same with a write-off - they'll pay you the agreed value but the vehicle, or what's left of it, becomes theirs.

Oh well, always worth asking!
Losing a lot of faith in dealers at the moment and find myself wondering if they know what they are talking about and whether they are interested in anything other than making massive profits from aftersales activities |
