Got a 2014 Cayman S

Well the deed is done...... sold the NSX last month then started the hunt for the 981 Cayman... Was frustrating finding a lot of low optioned choices out there, but I stayed patient and stuck to my must have list and finally found my unicorn that looks just like the one I last posted about in this thread a few post up.

Found a beautiful 2014 981 Cayman S with PDK that had everything I wanted and more
She is loaded!!
My must haves were
White on black
X73 sports suspension (super hard to find)
Sport Chrono pkg
Sportsdesign steering wheel
20" Carrera S wheels

The rest was gravy and there was a lot of it.... vin check revealed $18,500 in options!! Nice!!!

I searched nationwide on every site every day for about a month and finally found the perfect spec at a lexus dealer in San Jose Ca.

After some over the phone negotiations and a price I was very happy with and I was on a plane the next day...7am flight to Northern Cal and I was back home by 7pm in So Cal

I loved my NSX and will always appreciate that car, but the 22 year newer Cayman S is on a whole nother level.... I know it doesn't no have the wow factor on the old NSX, but it's just such a better car in just about every way.

I wanted the new C8, but the wait is long right now and I figured I could enjoy the heck out of this car right now and the next couple years while I let the dust settle on the C8...and save a ton of money with the used market.

Only had it a couple days now, but so far I'm loving it!

The obligatory proud new owner shot

A proper shot with a proper background

Thanks!

Yeah, I enjoyed the heck out of that car and appreciate the fact that it's the reason I have the 981 now.... it did so well that I ended up paying just a few thousand dollars more to get a 22 year newer car with 100,000 less miles.

Trust me, I would have love to have been able to afford to do that.... I have two other car payments right now already

But after having three NSX's over the last decade and a half it was time for something new. I think it was the right time to get out of the nsx as the market is starting to soften on those right now. I was very fortunate to buy my last one 5.5 years ago at an amazing price and cash out when I did that allowed me to get into a very nicely spec'd 981 Cayman S. like I said , I will always love the NSX and hope to get another one someday, but this car is on another level. All the reviews are true what they say about this 981 Cayman S.

any typical problems with your various nsx's over the years? they have been growing on me as a obtainable, reliable, rear engined sports car. exterior design has aged well too.

They are mid engine, but I think that's what you meant
They are hand built honda's so they're pretty bulletproof ...

Timing belt and water pump is the major thing to look for in service history and should be done every 70k or 7 years.... about $3500

Prices are high but they don't sale at crazy asking prices.... some of them sit there for months for sale. Prices are starting to come back to earth a bit.

Just make sure you get a clean title no stories car with a good service history.
They are quickly becoming garage queens these days as more people are afraid of putting miles on them and losing value instead of just enjoying the cars. The community isn't the same as it used to be.

Man... I feel sad to hear that you sold your NSX for a Cayman. The NSX is legendary. I would only trade it in if I was going to get the new Cayman GT4. Don't get me wrong the Cayman S is an amazing car but the NSX was like Honda's Mona Lisa!!

Yeah, it is an icon, but like I said I have had several of them the last 17 years and it was time to cash in and get something new... the NSX was an awesome car in the early 90's performance wise, but it's 2019 and it's becoming antique status. The 981 Cayman S is on another level that just isn't even fair to compare it to a 1992 NSX... I did things already in my two days of ownership that I would never even attempt in the NSX, it's hard to explain how well the Cayman S handles...It is like most of the YouTube videos and magazines say it is... one of the best sports cars money can buy. I have zero regrets and never will. The NSX is a great car for cars and coffee and canyon runs, but I wouldn't try to keep up with a Cayman S in one on a track or anywhere else.

I like that combo, poking around the same colours myself in an older 911.

Congrats on the Cayman S. It's a logical successor to the NA1 NSX. It has the same engine layout, but with every modern day convenience which is what us older guys want at this stage of our life. I don't miss my 1994 NSX, nor do I miss the POS 2017 NSX. I'm enjoying my new to me 2018 M3 so much that my loyalty has now shifted to BMW.

I decided to delay the purchase of the C8 also, and I know of three other people that have done the same. Until I am able to test drive one I just can't buy it without seeing how it will fit to my needs.

Enjoy the Cayman. It's a great car.

-Doc.

Enjoy. I had a '12 Cayman S that I kept for 5 years before trading for my '13 C2S. Great car, so fun on a track.

they were asking $47,988 ($53,125 OTD) but luckily another one with ver close specs popped up the same day from a private owner near me except it was silver on blue, silver was my second choice, so I used his asking price of $44,900 as leverage and got them down to $45,700 ($50,503 OTD) and booked a flight. I didn't want any regrets, so I paid a little more but glad I got the one I was looking for. the original MSRP was $82,930 so I was happy with the price.
had a great service record and brand new P-Zero tires and new brake pads also came with a 90 day 3000 mile warranty.

Same reason I got out of the e30 M3 market. The community turned into a bunch of hard Parker’s for the most part. Sold mine with 220k on it. (Rebuilt motor at 200k)
