F1: 2021 Regulations
massive cost cutting and using standardised parts seems on the way for 2021.. more standard parts for F1 dont sound that good like cup races but in the end it d be great to see Williams winning races again for example.. soon i guess FIA will finalize the regulations and it ll be all set.. im not sure for some them like no blankets = less pitstops probably or harder tires.. lap times shouldnt go down i believe.. https://www.formula1.com/en/latest/a...zyCt8meC2.html .. https://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/t...ptive/4547935/ https://www.autosport.com/f1/news/14...for-2021-rules ..

This morning, I read the updates on the F1 website....like all rule changes, this opens the door for parity between teams and addresses the very long and hotly discussed budget changes; I will enjoy the new 18 in wheels and the hopeful positive handling affect from low profile tires; the aero changes will hopefully allow better passing options.

First impressions at the image of the predicted car is perhaps jumping to the future too quickly and I'm not sure about the larger wheel/slimmer walled tyre combination fitting in with more bulkier suspension/damper/steering set up in the cramped bulkhead.Driver will have to sit even further back to make room for legs and feet.
If the cars will be approx 3.5 seconds slower then what's the point of having 18 inch wheels just for aesthetic purpose and the ride looks like being even harsher for the drivers. |

new car looks nice. but i think it's too big. looks like you could only have 2 cars side by side on the majority of the track (not pit straight). it will mean passing will be even more difficult.

There was an interesting article on Motorsport(.com) last week about the discussions between the teams and the FIA/WMSC. Some teams were wanting to delay the rules to 2022 and institute the cost cap in 2021. According to the article, because there is no cost cap next year the big budget teams will be spending massive amounts of money next year developing the 2021 car. They'll use up as much time and resources as they can while they can. This puts the smaller teams at a large disadvantage already even though these new rules are supposed to help level the playing field.

I suppose a wind tunnel test of a mock up or the real thing will reveal if that's the case.

I think the cost cap and a more standardized vehicle is the way to go. Not saying they should be identical cars but look at the cars now...they are VERY similar given the current regulations so why have the teams burn money developing everything on their own.
I really want to see some of the mid pack challenge Ferrari/MB/RB group. There's next to no coverage on the race from positions 11-20 unless someone is getting lapped or there's a highlight worthy incident. I think they should allow for MORE pitstops...allows strategy to play a bigger role in the overall win. |

i guess smaller sidewalls will affect pretty much the suspension setup as well.. cause teams are using that extra cushion from 13" wheels and thick sidewalls now.. probably brake dynamics will change all together.. but with this front wing seems like it wont shred tires in case of a contact, which is good..
