Should we wait for Adaptive cruise control?
I've put in my order but after reading on this forum about the mix of people who got adaptive cruises and who didn't get adaptive cruise, I'm having 2nd thoughts.
I commute 80 miles each weekday to work and I use my $20k Honda Accord adaptive cruise combined with lane keep to help me ease my drive. It is wonderful on tiring days. And I feel torn to trade this with an M240i that has an M engine but with no driving convenience options. It almost feels like trading down instead of trading up Anyways. I want to get clarification from you guys. Have any of you received an M240i with adaptive cruise? I see that pre 2022 there are some post that you got an "Active cruise control". If so, does anyone know if it will become available again? I really don't want to be the one with the "chip shortage" generation that is undesirable to the market 4 years later . Thank you for your feedback |

the car does have what's called dynamic cruise control.. that doesn't adjust to oncoming traffic, but will slow down for curves, or apply brakes if going down hill. if you wait until next year's model, you'll end up with idrive 8.. which could be viewed as a good or bad thing depending on your taste. |

ACC
I decided to wait to order an M240. I waited about a year for it to be released with xDrive. Now it looks like it will be lacking features I got on my VWs going back to 2013. And new features I expected. And dealers don't seem to know what will or won't show up. And BMW seems unclear on what won't be there or when it will be resolved. ACC, HD sound, touch screen, satellite radio, lumbar support for non leather seats... I don't NEED a new M240, I wanted one. Still do. But for now I'm sticking with my Golf R.

Patience is the name of the game in this market. Wait for what you want, at a fair price, no regrets.

I had never visited my local BMW dealer up until a week AFTER ordering the M240i. Once I found out about the ACC drama I decided to go see the dealership (only 35 minutes away) and sit down with my salesman to figure out exactly what's going on. We got the ACC added, but still awaiting an allocation...I think, as I haven't been updated yet this week.
My girlfriend's Mazda has ACC and the only time I really like using it is in heavy stop-and-go traffic, which is rare for me. On the highway I tend to find it a little annoying as it starts slowing me down waaaaaaay before I get to the car in front of me if I don't change lanes like 300 yards away, and that's with the shortest setting applied. So I could take it or leave it. It just really bothered me that it wouldn't have it when cars 1/3 the price do. |

I ordered in Nov, and my car arrived in mid Jan. The only delete I have on my car is for the passenger lumbar. I haven't really used ACC except to test drive it. However, I imagine I will use it here and there. They did try to delete my ACC, satellite radio, and my wireless charger. All 3 I barely use. But I'm not going to pay premium price and get shortchanged on things. Part of this is if I plan to sell it in the future (no plans though). I'd walk if you can.

I don't understand how BMW (or any manufacturer) can sell a vehicle WITHOUT a radio. that's the most basic of basic. hopefully they don't delete that option on mine without informing me.

I just got the ball rolling on an order last week. I engaged two dealerships. The first dealership had the 5DF option available to add to the build, the second BMW dealership said they could not add it to the build and pointed me to the updated order guide that had the feature removed.
Dealer #1 was looking to trade for an allocation and was able to do that yesterday. Once he got this and was able to actual submit the build it would not let him do it with the 5DF option and he had to remove it. It does suck as I think it is a good set of features to have when you need it. I wouldn't need it as much for the adaptive cruise control -- but the lane keep assist features are nice when you know you will be inattentive for a small bit. Let's say I get an e-mail or text I need to look at -- pop on those features and it does a good job of keeping me in my lane during those few seconds of inattentiveness. It did make me want to halt my order.. but I do not like what I hear about iDrive8 and overall it is a set of features that would not be used very often so I went ahead with my build. It does lead to a slightly less satisfied feeling as I had every other available option minus cooling package. |

And just to be clear. 5DF is the capability to reduce speed when I am on cruise control and there's a car in front within a specified range. Is that correct? That's real important for me. Majority of my commute is on a 2 lane road going mostly straight. Not everyone is following speed of the traffic. And some really like to be on the left lane 🙃 |

Automatic adjustment of the distance between the car and the vehicle ahead using radar sensors in the front bumper. In stop/start motorway traffic, the system will maintain the distance to the car ahead even if it comes to a complete stop. The distance to the car in front can be adjusted by the driver. Once the traffic ahead clears, the car will return to the pre-set speed, providing that the period the vehicle was stationary was not longer than 3 seconds. Settings selectable by steering-column stalk. Includes additional 'adaptive brake assist' to provide maximum braking power in situations where collisions are likely. In addition to the ACC the package also contains lane keep assist and some additional emergency breaking and cross traffic alerting. |

The 2 series does NOT have Lane Keep Assist. It has Lane Departure Warning. This mean you get a wakeup call when you leave your lane w/o your blinker (annoying feature). Lane Keep Assist basically drives the car for you in your lane, which these cars do NOT do.
It would also be helpful if everyone just considered the non-ACC as good ol' regular cruise control. I don't own a M240i, but I did sleep at a Holiday Inn Express. |

I had ACC in the order and it was removed once it got into the production queue. I still need to decide if I'm going to pick up the car without this feature. The year is 2022 and my Honda Civic has it, just like my GTI had it in 2016.

From my experience ACC is best in extremely heavy and extremely slow interstate traffic. Think of moving in a fast food drive-thru. Once the pace picks up a little the folks that are actually driving their cars will constantly use the significant gap the ACC creates to cut in front of you.
Disregard the above if you're driving on a 2-lane highway and the people behind you can't pass. |
