Extreme toe out - nope lane departure warning
My first drive in the G42 was from the dealer and home after taking delivery. Twice I experienced what felt like extreme tram lining and pull to the sides similar to when the alignment is way out there with extreme toe out and tram lining.
Did some research and found the lane departure warning sub option “steering intervention”. Who da f*ck thought this is a good idea? Off it went |

I have not received the vehicle yet, but is there an option to have the steering wheel vibrate upon lane drifting? I had a Mercedes that does that and I definitely do not want an intervention.

YES ... I had it in my 2014 435i and found it useful and non-intrusive. The self correct....that was turned off before I left dealership with mine.

The steering intervention is way, way too aggressive. I turned it off after the first time it kicked in. I left the vibration warning on though, that is pretty nice.

What's the difference between lane centering and lane departure? Is it just software or does it involve extra hardware? Why don't manufacturers simply offer lane centering?

I thought mine had a bad wheel bearing at first or a loose wheel lug nut. It's annoying but a nice safety feature for those of us who like to eat taco bell, talk on the phone, read a book and do our makeup all at once while driving.
In all seriousness it's too sensitive to the roads around here. It will detect cracks in the pavement and patch work repairs and can be annoying |
