893M after 792M
Hi guys,
I'm in to replace my F21 and actually am reflecting to the final configuration of my (future) G42 m240iX. I could order it with the 792M wheels or with the ZTK package which will come Ith 893M. I really want the 893M because of their width but unfortunately, taxes are really high here if I order the ZTK package. So the idea would be, to get the 893M wheels, to order the car with the standard 792M wheels (or any other) and then to buy some 893M and equip them with Michelin PS4S*. Regarding to the xDrive, would it be possible? Would I have to code the car or not? Does the ZTK pack come with something which would allow the car to "live" with the larger 893M? Thanks in advance guys! Fidiman

You might want to check out the thread under "general topicsl" for the thread "question, re: 792 wheels and fender flares" something like that anyway.
Economically I don't know how much further ahead you will be, but i assume you have checked out the cost of the wheels/tires and it pencils out? Seems like the ZTK package puts you in a different tax bracket?? |

Tha KS for the input I carefully red the mentionned thread and from what I understood, everything is Ok with xDrive as long as you respect the tolerance of more or less 1% in rolling diameter.
I did the calculations to clearly understand what all the percentages meant As I'm new in this xDrive world, I just want to do everything correctly (previously owned an E82 and actually a F21)... I did some research and I would be able to source the complete wheelset (893M + PS4S* tires), here in Europe, for more or less 3500€. You're correct, selecting the ZTK pack would send me in another taxes section and would charge me with more than the double (almost 8000€ taxes + option selected)

I also wondered about the differences in tire size non-ZTK and ZTK. I got some very interesting feedback in this thread 'Official 2022 2-Series Coupe (G42) Preview, Specs and First Reviews', posts 76 to 79. It appears that tire circumferences don't need to be within less than 1% front to back in current gen cars |

Hello guys (and even to French who got lost here)
A question I asked myself too. I'm not going to redo the whole forum, especially since it's in English, but I was able to read or understand that: the size change (225>245) could damage the Xdrive (8/8.5?) the size of the brake discs were not the same with the original 225 tires (compared to 245) I think we can always adapt BUT warranty level (3 years) and maintenance contract (if taken)? You still know how they can quibble (if not done by an official network)! |

After some research and understanding, you will be able to switch the 225 front with 245 if you have 255 rear (or 245, but it will be a square setup).
The moste important with these xDrive cars are to be in the 1% tolerance (or very very close if you are going further) of the rolling diameter difference between the front and rear axle. So you could imagine going wider than 255/35/19 rear if you are going wider on the front axle too and vice versa In addition, talking about the difference of discs diameters, it appears there is no difference ticking the ZTK option or not. I will be able to assure you that the second the online ETK or the Leebmann24 catalogue will be up to date

A member of this forum told me that he had taken the M Performance pack.
It's going to have 20 ' wheels but the weird thing is it's going to end up with 225/35/20 in the front and 255/30/20 in the rear. Strange that BMW didn't put 245s up front with this pack! Do the 245 go over the front 791 wheels (19/8) ? Another thing, test of the 240 on TF1 this Sunday morning. Curious to see their comments |

Ive done it on my car already. The max recommended tire size is 245 on the 8in wide front and 255 (which comes from the factory) for a 8.5in wide rear.

Can the 245 (on 791M) at the front be fitted without the fender flares, which are necessary with the ztk pack (to be homologated)? Or these fender flares are only necessary with the pack ? Thanks for reply |

The 791/792/797 style wheel doesnt protrude past the legally mandated envelope of the car and hence dont require the flares. Going to a 245 wide tire still doesnt put the wheel/tire past the extremities of the car fender envelope.

mechman any pic of your car with the 245 front ?
Could be a good idea to switch the front tires if the width of the 245 is compatible with the 8" rim!

The car could really do with 255 up front, I'm used to driving a 2020 Porsche 911 4S so probably a harsh critic but the G42 has more then enough power and chassis control to do some serious speed through twistys but the front end can understeer even on the M performance 245s in conditions where you can't power oversteer the rear end such as tight roundabouts or corners with high gutters.
I suspect they've slightly under-tired the car, otherwise it would rip on a rear-wheel-drive soon-to-be-released M2 in real world, street conditions. As soon as someone releases a decent 9 x 20" front rim option in the aftermarket I'll upgrade and go to 255 section on the front end. The rears are pretty solid in 255 but could also go to a 10 x 20 w 265 or something similar and the car would be rock solid on road and an absolute monster in terms of grip and performance in all weather. |

Little late in the conversation here but I opted for the all season run flat tires instead of the performance tires and wheels. For a little more than the extra $2,400 BMW charges for the tire and cooling package you could buy some nice Michelin 275R/255F plus 10/9" wheels. This would be even more of an upgrade over the BMW option and you'd still have a spare set of tires and wheels for the other half of the year when it's pointless to run summer tires that wear out in 20k miles.
The fender flares do look nice and it is a bit of an insult to get a 130mph limited speedometer here, but realistically who plans to go that fast on a public road or knows someone that makes them privy to a closed course track? |
