New to the Bimmer Club (M240i)

Today I pulled the trigger and secured my allocation for my M240i! My CA said that I'm third in line which means it won't be until June before my order moves further, meaning I'm likely to be into the 2023 MY. I'm hopeful these rumors of the update to iDrive 8.0 hold off until the LCI...

I went with:

PB w/ Shadowline trim
797M Wheels (Perf non-rft tires)
Black Vernasca w/ Blue Stitching
Alum trim
Premium Package
Parking Package
HK Stereo
Remote Start

Now the difficult part begins - the waiting! And also eventually parting ways with my '12 GTI. That car has been an absolute treat (it's stage 2 unitronic ECU/TCU tunes/TB exhaust/CAI) but I've always dreamed of having a BMW sports car, and now that dream will be reality (not) soon enough!

I also had a 12 GTI stage 2 revo it is a huge upgrade. I am in love with the car its 100% worth it.

Congrats and nice build. I ordered the PB also. Only differences is I went with the 893 wheels, black Sensatec and gloss black trim (gonna change it to carbon fiber eventually). Build to start in 2 weeks hopefully.

Nice, Jonesymx29, that's exactly my spec. Our cars are going to be twins.

Put my order in on Monday and was told the same, likely will be a 2023 and up to 5 months wait, but could be delivered sooner. Worst case scenario it'll be good to have something cool to look forward to as summer comes to a close.

Brooklyn grey w/ shadowline
Tacora red interior
Black trim to be covered with CF AliExpress kit
797m with non run flat
Red calipers
Premium package
Parking package
Remote start
Wireless charging
HK audio
Drive recorder
Working with my CA to get adaptive cruise added

That's good to hear! It's so fun to buzz around town in but for longer trips, it's a bit loud now and the gear ratios don't help with fuel economy at all.

Thanks! I'm still toying with the idea of the 893 wheels but my goal is to have a set of 18" winter wheels and I believe with the bigger rotors, I'd need 19" to clear them? I'm eyeing the CF trim from Aliexpress as well, maybe for 2023 it will be a factory option. Still debating on sensatec vs vernasca...

The BG/TR combo is ace! I think if PB wasn't on the table, I would have strongly considered BG or BSM.

I had the same original build week as Golddog which was this week. However it seems they've been pushed back a couple weeks. If they do start production in the next couple weeks I am guessing mid-July delivery.

Just speculation, I assume. No way to know for sure for now, but I suspect they won't change it after only one year.

Edit: Nice find, Jonesymx29. No guarantees still, it seems, but interesting for sure.

At the 4:32 mark in this video there is a G42 M240i. You can somewhat make out the back of the screen, which appears to be larger and different than the iDrive 7 screen. The driver then goes on to cover the screen with a cloth so it can't be seen.

If ynguldyn wrote it's going to happen, it is almost a dead certainty it is going to happen, especially considering he edited the original post on 1 April.

I don't want any part of iDrive8 so I'm hoping I get my allocation filled this MY.

But if not, I'll have to resign myself to accept it.

Just in case will have to find out what options are part of the M Sport Package Pro that will be available next model year.

I just ordered an M240i as well. I have a production number and they are saying it’s slotted for an early May build, but it seems possible that will get pushed back based on what others are saying about their build weeks.

Can you clarify what you mean by third in line? As in are you third in line to get a production number and allocation from you dealer or did you get their third furthest out allocation? If you have a production number then it seems you have an allocation of not you would be on the waitlist for an allocation as I understand it.

I’m just trying to figure the chances that what I ordered becomes a 23. I was more worried about missing the allocation and having to pay 23 model year prices vs. 22 because significant inflation seems possible. I don’t mind the Idrive8 and to me the fact that it’s digital buttons means it’s more likely they can extend options and functionality over time just via software upgrades.

Does the "new instrument panel" necessarily mean iDrive 8 though? Why is his wording different for the G20 LCI where he says, "new interface package"? To me, interface package definitely means iDrive 8 but I don't know that a new instrument panel necessarily means the iDrive upgrade.

if you looked at zipstic's post the driver is clearly covering the dash with what appears to be a cloth or jacket before he enters the circle and is still out of view of the camera. The way he slings the cover item it nicely dovetails with what will likely be the location of the idrive8 infotainment screens.

Could definitely be jumping to conclusions though.

We'll know for sure whenever BMW AG or NA publishes the MY23 G42 buying guide and information.

I do agree it looks like the iDrive 8 screen(s) but how do we know that's a MY2023 G42? Could just be some sort of test vehicle.

Congrats on your new order, I went with TNM, but the PB was my close second color - it also looks amazing.

I had an 11 GTI, loved the DSG on that car, especially for commuting.

Sure, what I mean is that the dealer I'm working with gets one M240i allocation a month, so my order won't start moving until June at the earliest since the allocations for April and May are already spoken for. It'll give me a bit of time to sell my GTI and put more money away for a down-payment. I imagine prices are going to jump up a fair clip but, that's the world we live in. Worst case scenario is I have to bail out and I lose my deposit.

For what it's worth, my CA said that EOP of the '22 is late-July.

Thanks! I love the press shots of TNM but I've always had an affinity to blue. I used to have a Saab 9-3 in fusion blue metallic that I loved, so when I saw PB (and the dealer had an i4 in PB on the lot), I knew absolutely had to go for that.

My GTI has the DSG as well, it's been a great around-town car. If my GTI wasn't tornado red, I may have considered melbourne red for the 240. Red w/ black trim, maybe cognac interior... Good thing I've got time to reconfigure the car before it hits production
