230i owners: Dynamic Handling pkg, e-diff?

Its been several months now since this was discussed so thought Id ask for those thats been driving theirs for awhile that do not have the DH pkg: anybody notice the car struggling to put down power or notice the TC kicking in & cutting power? Any regrets for not getting it?


I have on order a 230i Msport w/o the DH & mulling should I add for everyday street driving. I will not track it, have a boring 10 min commute but will floor it when I come across a fwy on ramp. My last RWD was an S2000 but I expect this to be a different drive (heavy+lots of tork). I understand the benefit (of the diff) and knowing that I'll never track it, my regret will be if it has trouble putting power down on normal street corners.

Built my 230i with LSD (and big brakes) but ended up buying a car off the lot with neither.

Was hesitant at first. But decided I was not going to track the car and LSD not critical. Ditto big brakes. Besides big brakes penalize acceleration and cost like crazy to replace when worn out.

Also, I have had considerable time in cars with no LSD and its absence was not a problem.

The flip side is I have had considerable time in cars with LSD and its presence was not AFAIK all that obvious. Admittedly though with for instance 485hp (Dodge Challenger Scat Pack) or even 707hp (Dodge Challenger Hellcat) the presence of LSD is not going to really help putting the power down. Top fuel slicks might help but not LSD...

My 230i came with the M Sport Package, Premium Package 2. So far the handling has been superb. But I have not pushed the car that hard but a few infrequent times on some interesting roads. Far and away I think the 19" high performance tires along with the superb suspension account for the car's excellent grip and handling.

Never thought about bigger brakes affecting acceleration. Then again never drove anything remotely close to 700hp. Even though it might cost more; anything car related, I find labor to be the biggest cost, even moreso post-covid.
I did add it to my build as it does rain alot here in PNW and I wanted the best available traction. It seems the F22 owner rave about/lament the lack of factory installed LSD.

My 230i with M-Sport does not have LSD either and I haven't noticed a problem yet. Handles pretty aggressive street driving.

I noticed the m sport comes with the 18" all season non run flat tires as standard as per the bmw build site. Did you upgrade to the 19" performance non run flats? (Pirelli P zeros?) I think it's a $600 option.

Do you feel like the larger wheels and tires also add some extra weight in terms of acceleration and negatively affect turn in? Is the steering still super crisp with the 19's ?

Bought the car off the lot. (Day after it arrived on the lot.)

Car came with M-Sport Package, Premium Package 2. Along with the M Sport Package 19" M Double Spoke Black 791M wheels. The sticker lists this wheel/tire option cost at $600.

No brand of tire or tire details given but I'm pretty sure the tires are non run flats and are high performance tires.

Sure larger wheels/tires increase un-sprung weight and require more power to accelerate and more effort to slow.

But the larger wheels are often rather light given their size. But they probably weigh more than 18" wheels. And of course, all other things being equal larger tires are going to weigh more than their smaller diameter counterparts.

But with the 19" wheels/high performance tires I really like the car's handling. It is very responsive without being "twitch-y". And grip is very good. The car is perfectly suited for highway and back roads, IMHO.

With 18" wheels/high performance tires the car might feel just as good as it does with 19" wheels/high performance tires but I will never know.
