Misha is a super guy and has tons of experience on the nordschleife. There are some issues he mentions of which I don't agree at all though. Apparently, they try to cast the M240i Xdrive as a track endurance weapon, which it clearly isn't. It's the lowest cost high performance GT money can buy with only toptier components in it: B58, ZF8HP, best Xdrive with torque vectoring, UP35/Clar chassis.

Don't forget the torsional rigidity has improved massively which is more than double the one of the e46 M3 that is showcased as a better track car. I'am not mentioning the NCAP performance here which really totally humiliates the e46! So the weight is no surprise, but when you want all this, where are you going to find the kgs to ditch? Cheaper plastics on the dash, tiny seats, more carbon fiber, carbon brake discs...? There are two effects: 1/ it will feel as a kit car, 2/it will cost 20% more.

And all this when almost nobody uses this car for more than some occasional track day laps on which it will deliver joy abundantly!

No really, the criticism on the weight and the endurance on track is becoming 'cheap'.

I don't, since it's apparently very capable on track for occasional track days, and it's world class leading as a GT for real money in our real world! To be honest, don't think that it is that much behind a M850i all aspects considered.

Nobody complained that the M850i was no real track weapon at more then double the cost, did they!? I don't remember much complaining about the M8 comp either to this respect, while it's not a nimble sweet little track instrument either, not!?

All this whining and complaining, really, what do they expect from a car at this price point?

Actually, it's now that they realise that the M240i delivers the hard performance that would justify it's M moniker, that they started to judge it for it's track capabilities. That's misplaced, it's a super sweet GT that can accelerate impressively and goes around corners like no GT ever before. And therefore, they think it's a genuine track car, it's not, it's much more than that.

don't get the weight thing other than it's an easy thing to put in the "negatives" column.

"Sports cars" like the Camaro RS/SS are over 3300 lbs, 911 Carerra over 3,400 lbs, Mustang GT and Corvette C8 both weigh over 3500 lbs. Aston Martin Vantage and Mustang Ecoboost at 3,700 lbs. New M4 is 3,800 lbs, right up there with the GT-R.

...even my old RWD 135i was nearly 3,400 lbs. Cars are heavy these days - I'm over it.

it fills in a segment beautifully as well. compared to the S3/whatever mercedes comp is to an S3, it is far and away better. and yet, it is maybe 98% of the car that a RS3 is, at a lower price point that doesnt reflect that. i had a `19 S3 and I always wanted more power from it, but the RS3 seemed like such a weird option for that price point... you can get some really unique cars at $65/70k plus. the G42 m240, that you can get spec'd well in the low to mid 50s, is just an amazing sweetspot of eating your cake and having it too.

Actually I would say that's without driver. I put my M240i xdrive on a scale not too long ago with me in it and it weighed around 4,060. I may have had about 5-10lbs worth of objects in the car, a half tank of gas and I weigh roughly 195lbs

Great review, answers a lot of questions I had. It's not a dedicated track car, but still I had a lot questions about how this car can perform on the track for those 5-6x a year I plan on going to the track, autocross, etc. He pretty much hit the nail on the head about what I wanted to know, specifically about the suspension and brakes performance with what everyone knows is a heavy car. With that being said, it would have been nice to see him comment about the i8 which all the '23+ models will have, rather than the i7 that he was provided with.

I mean, he didn't even mention RWD availability for 2023. I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't know that either thing will even exist

there's already some commentary out there on it, and BMW doesn't heavily vary interiors between cars for things like this. early takes aren't great, but since the whole thing is a screen, they can likely make updates to improve. granted, certain physical buttons can't come back

Seems to be very common for people to complain about for the last several years.

Unless you have a 3,400 pound go-kart Supra , your car is an 'overweight pig'.

People review GT cars, daily drivers, and sedans that are fully equipped with all the options and are amazed that they are so heavy at 3,700 pounds .

But great review by Misha, he seems to appreciate the car.
