Does not seem true

My dealer said this when I told him...when car arrives I have the option to finance through my bank or other along with BMW maybe...this was his reply...

"I strongly recommend financing through us because it’s a one stop shop for you where we can service your vehicle, you have all your warranties and myself to assist you with this BMW you’re getting"

Sounds like BS.
Sadly I have never had a great experience with car salesmen.
But this G42 will only be my 3rd new car of my life. And I am 50yrs old. But I drive my cars for a long long time.

What exactly are you saying is untrue? He is trying to sell services. I see no untrue statements.

I took it as he was saying if I do not finance through BMW that somehow they won't be able to provide services etc. That's how I took it anyway. I do not think that can be true. He also tried to tell me the day i submitted the build to them, that if i did not by a rip off dealer package (unlimited carwashes, concierge services etc that they could not sell me the car at MSRP! I asked for the sales manager after that.

This is what sales people do. Imply that there's a compelling reason to buy their product or services. He did not state that if you do not finance with them that you couldn't get your car serviced there. But they way he framed it made you feel that. ("I took it as...")

That is called sales.

If you felt that deceived you should not have ordered with them in the first place or given them any of your money.

Never trust a salesman. He most likely making money on you financing at the dealer. That sales person usually is not around long enough to help you after the sale and he will just push you off to the service department anyway. Sales are sales and have nothing to do with service. Go for the best interest rate.

That is NOT what the salesman said, you are reading too much into it. Yes it's a one stop shop where they can do etc etc. You CAN have it serviced any at BMW.
He is simply saying what they can offer, there is nothing implied etc that your service will suffer it not financed thru them....come on man!
NO BS there in his statement.
If they want to charge more than MSRP that is their prerogative, you choose where you want to deal.

Uhhh, nothing the salesman said it's untrue or sleezy. Saying it's easier to do it all in house IS true most of the time. He never said you HAVE to do it that way. "Never trust a salesman" is such a dated statement. My BMW sales guy was fantastic. Everything he said was true. Entire process went as smooth as can be. He bent over backwards to make sure I was happy.

The G42 230i I picked up in June is the 5th new car for me; and for the first time, ever, the salesperson/dealership suggested I do not go through BMW for financing.

Every other dealership I've been to: Ford (ugh), Toyota (meh) and Mini (pretty good, twice) -- sales folks have ALWAYS urged me to finance through the dealership. The other 4 times I've bought new I started with my own bank, only to have the dealership beat the rate I was given by my bank.

This time -- I'm with the same bank I've been for the other 4 cars -- the BMW dealership didn't even offer to finance. When I started negotiating (over the internet, this dealership was 450+ miles away), and I asked about rates -- the salesman suggested I ask my bank…first.

When I gave him the rate my bank gave me, his response was: "Yeah…you are better off sticking with your bank's financing. BMW can't [in my head: won't?] match that rate."

Was very, very strange. I'm not a financial savant but I fully expected a full-on press for BMW Financing. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

In the end, this was by far the best dealership situation ever. Crazy--it was in 2022, during a "chip crisis" and gigantic dealership markups… both of which I avoided.

The pitch for wheel protection, paint protection, GAP and the add-ons most people don't do was not pressurized either. I couldn't believe it.

If I didn't live an 8hr+ drive away from the dealership I got my 230i from I'd go back for my next purchase.

Wow complete opposite of my journey (yours's is great). My dealership doesn't go above MSRP which is great but in order to do that you HAVE to finance through them. The last BMW I bought from them (this is my 3rd) I walked in and lied to them telling them I had 2.9% financing through my credit union and they begged me to finance through them as long as they could match it! This time around no wiggle room at all...I just have to wait 90 days before refinancing...ended up with 3.9% which isn't terrible but they locked it in before the fed rate hike.
