That area is a bit small. I guess I see why they didn't add it. I still would of been nice to of at least have the small emblem like the M240i has. I know Jose said he wanted to keep things simple.

Honestly I like the lack of a badge. I definitely see both sides, but I think the simplicity sets it apart from its lesser model

I prefer the side badge, makes the long hood look shorter.

There is nothing wrong with not have ///M badges plastered all over the car. BMW knocks that out of the park with the M Performance models.

Pretty sure there are elements being held back for the Competition model (or LCI, if they're not the same).

As is, the car is a strong base for M-Performance and aftermarket mods.

A more vertical badge might work with all of the straight lines, but I don't mind the clean look without it. Especially since vents aren't functional anyway

In the bmw blog video with the m2 designer, he mentioned that the big reason why they didn’t put in the fender vent was because it served no purpose and they wanted every part of the car “honest” to the function it served, meaning no fake vents and etc. (…but then he put in black, non functioning bits underneath the headlights to make it look more square. Contradiction much??)

Either way, I love the car as is, but now that you photoshopped them in, I like how it breaks up the front fender area.

They are honest as just M badges, dishonest as vents.

The lack of the fender grille really bugged me before this reveal…but seeing how clean that side profile is without it completely erased that.

Thanks Tag. Your threads today have been spot on.

I honestly thought it was going to have a vertical style air exit like the new Type-R / RS3 and GR86

Nobody seems to be bothered by the weird rear rocker panel lines connecting to the rear quarter panel? That's just an amateur bad excution for me.

The funny thing is that Carwow and a couple of other YT reviewers called this out on other "M" cars as being of no use - BMW took it to heart.

That's so you can replace the whole rocker and portion of the fender when it's chewed up by rocks

I thought this was a photoshop trying to make the G87 M2 look even less good. And then I clicked on the M performance parts thread. WTAF!

Trending:
  • non M cars getting more ///M badges;
  • M cars getting less ///M badges.
Oh the irony:
  • untrained eye spotting the side of a G42 M240i passing by: "look, the new M2 !";
  • untrained eye spotting the side of a G87 M2 passing by: "ha, that dude stuck a fake M2 badge on his trunk..."

I agree. M is so diluted with regular sport line or whatever, I prefer less M badge as possible on regular M cars.

I heard that in the video with Jose Casas, I was like...what?

Why no side vent decor?..."what we don't need, we don't do".

Very next question...

Do the vents under headlights provide a purpose?..."no it's aesthetic".
