I've never liked lane departure warnings. Why would a sports car even have it? It would make sense if the car had the driver assistance package but the pics show a manual transmission. I'm confused.

First, should we really consider a car weighing nearly two tons to be a “sports car?” No.

It is standard equipment in the U.S.

Looks like I will spend 100% of my time in either Sport or Track. It will probably have to be selected everytime the car is started.

I always find this gate-keeping of what is and isn't a sports car to be so weird.

Which of the following are "sports cars":
m4
m4 CSL
base Cayman
GT4
base 911
GT3RS

My answer to all of the above (and the M2) is *of course*.

I absolutely love M-iD8, especially "Sport" view.

Will definitely be able to change it to start in sport mode through coding if it's not available through standard iDrive settings. Which if you do that, while you're in there you can also disable the legal disclaimer that appears on every startup saying don't be distracted

You won't be doing track mode 100% of the time because that turns off your iD8 screen. No radio/phone/AC/Safety and etc.

None of those are sports cars as they all have roofs

Sounds awesome. I would consider analogue dashboard and crank windows if possible. Plan to drive w/o climate on and moonroof open letting the engine talk to me.

I'm assuming you're joking, unless you are confusing "sports car" with the word "roadster" lol

How else can you shut down these driving aids in id8 if you don't have Track mode ?

In id7 there was a button on the dash you could just hold down and switch everything off.

They aren't open wheel race cars but yes they are race cars.

Although it's a joke to say track mode disables lane departure and brake assist? But then I guess most people aren't race car drivers so :

It's buried in the settings.

At least we maybe still have the memory buttons (although now on screen) to shortcut it. (fingers crossed)

I love the analog gauges in the f8x cars. The idrive screen in my 2020 m4 is pretty small compared to these also. I feel like it's more about the drive with that version of idrive even in that car compared to the new ones. Everything is becoming digital and automated.

Not a big deal to me. Those are a set it and forget it feature for me. I won't be turning on any lane departure help.

I switched from personal settings to all off everytime I got on track. If you don't the collision avoidance goes crazy when your coming hot in another cars rear end.

modern "sports cars" should just be called "sports computers" instead—tragic tech. I don't want any of this garbage.

How right you both are. But of course, one can't help suspecting that we who like the experience of actually interacting with an automobile rather than having the whole experience remediated through a binnacle-less interface that's redolent of a widescreen gaming console will soon struggle to sound anything other than retrograde. Then again, perhaps the technozeal interface/dash automation revolution has now peaked.
