Great photos. I too have a ZB on order and these pictures have put my mind at rest. I keep thinking I should have gone with white. I have a 2022 m240i in BG and absolutely love it. But wanted to try a new color

This is my buddy’s M2 actually, I just picked it up for him and drove it for the day and then a couple hours to his house the next day. I also have a 2022 BG M240i and I’m staying with that (I had an M2 on order, but cancelled after driving this). After driving the M2 on some twistys and highways, I can safely say they are very similar IMO so I can’t justify the extra money for a slightly faster top speed and stiffer, wider track for the track. The M240i is noticeably faster 0-60 as well, but I have xDrive so it’s really not a fair match until they make an xDrive M2 which I’m sure the M2 would beat it then of course. (Not by much though)

I can see how the M2 would be a better track car though (which is the whole point of the M2) as the steering is more precise (my M240i steering is a bit numb, but that’s a staple of any xDrive car). The turn in is quicker / sharp along with much better brakes so you can brake later which will give you better track times for sure. You feel more involvement on the track, but I don’t see a major huge difference for everyday driving (tires make a huge difference as we all know)

I’m not a huge YT reviewer like some of the video reviews show, but I am a performance driving instructor so I am speaking from real world experience of many years driving M cars so this is simply my opinion. I’m sure some people will agree and some will argue, and that’s the beauty of opinions.

IMO if you already have a G42 M240i that’s a much better daily for the money and just as fast, you don’t need an M2 unless you are a track focused driver or some extra money to burn or simply need to have the M2 badge on your trunk (which I totally understand)

They are both great cars either way, enjoy whatever you decide!

BTW I have seen white in person and would choose white if it was my car, with the CF roof and black wheels, black gloss trim it looks insane.

I have serious issues believing the '22 M240 is as fast (or as you say, faster) than the '23 M2.

I have the '23 M240 (which is RWD) so I will be able to report in 3-4 months.

xDrive being the key term when comparing. You may have missed that point. Your G42 will be slower than the G87 M2 if you have RWD now, although the B58 has more low down torque compared to the S58 so it’s a different feel. The M2 is faster at higher speeds due to this, the S58 doesn’t really “get going” until a certain RPM, S58 drivers will tell you this if you compare it to a B58. Course, once it does get going it wants to go hella fast all the time. The S58 hates cruising around town, but then again it’s meant for the track.

I am aware of the nuances between B58 and S58. I alao dont believe the xdrive on the M240 will make that much if a difference when comparing the two (with all cars be the 8AT). The M2 also has more settings that will help the low end torque.

Curious, was the M2 you drove a manual or 8AT? I am also sure you kept it within breakin limits...

He is probably talking about 0-60. M240 and M2 have very simalar 0-60 time off the line. with Xdrive, I wouldn't be surprised if the M240 beats the M2 off the line or 0-60. The M2 should definitely be the faster car aside from a dig. The point of the M2 is that it is a better handling car.

I would probably take a look at the M240i if only manual was an option.

Or you desire a manual transmission.

The M2 and M240i xDrive are within a tenth of a second of each other when it comes to 0-60.

Source: I looked at two different recorded times for 0-60 for the both. One comes in at 3.6 and the other at 3.67. I did not compare set-ups etc. I'm sure we'll see a direct comparison on YT before long.

Interesting you say the M240 Xdrive feels noticeably faster than the G87. I think Joe Achilles got the fastest recorded 0-60 time with the G87 at 3.67 seconds if I’m not mistaken (and that was on public roads at the press event, not within their own testing environments). The best recorded 0-60 for the M240i Xdrive was by C&D at 3.6 seconds (no recorded video). Joe recorded the 1/4 time for the G87 at 11.9 and C&D got 12.1 for their 1/4 run in that same test they got the 3.6 0-60 run.

I would think in real world driving that the difference in the 0-60 times should be negligible between the 2 cars, not one be noticeably quicker than the other. I would also think the G87 would eventually overtake the M240i in a 1/4 run. I don’t doubt at all that the M240i has more torque and feels punchier down low thanks to the B58.

As a G82, G42, and G22 owner, I can definitively say that the difference will be significant between a G87 and G42 when driven at 7/10ths or harder. You do not have to take the G8x to the track to feel the vast improvement in performance.

If break-in was respected, obviously the observed delta will be much narrower.

My M240i and M440i (both xDrive) were perfect fun daily drivers. Excellent street performance, and will be enough for most people who just need something that can merge well and take off from a red light fast and hold the line at speed around an on-ramp. They are far from full M cars.
