What's In A Name?
The G87 weighs too much. It lost its roots. BMW has destroyed its design language and is out of touch with its base. Every G series car is a turd.
We've seen converts from dedicated F87 folks, to dedicated G80 folks, to dedicated G82 folks, to the G87. Even Thomas says, it's objectively a better car. Maybe I'm late too the game with this post; but: With the endless banter back and forth about BMW destroying their heritage and adding weight and tech and this and that and pretty much coming to an end; I humbly ask the question: What's in a name? The Shakespearean answer is: it is the worth of the individual that counts. Track testing shows we have an exceptional car on our hands. But what if I offered you: forward-thinking looks, more luxury, better quality AND faster lap times? This is the new name: G87 M2. Can I get a hallelujah? Thanks for reading. |

The kind of people you want to reach are the kind of people that can't let go of the name or the past, alas.
But yes, if one judges the G87 without expectations on its merits and within its segment, it's a beast of a car for the price. If you care specifically about RWD or 6MT, it becomes even more exceptional. And that's just stock, the modding headroom is high, we are gonna see some insane variants over the next couple years. |
