Curb weight w/ automatic and/or sunroof?
So we’ve seen a few owners weight their M2s but I believe they’ve all been manuals and CF roofs. Any owners with automatic and/or sunroofs weigh theirs yet? Mine is manual and I know the automatic and the sunroof are supposed to add roughly around 50lbs each, give or take a few pounds, but I’m just curious.

3754 is a bit generous with 90% fuel. Maybe with carbon buckets you're looking at 3740ish. I would put manual and carbon roof at 3765.

Right, which is pretty much why I started this thread. I remember the weights for a couple of owners with CF roof and manual when they put theirs on scale and they were a bit more than what BMW has published so I was curious how much do the sunroof and automatic really add on irl.

The ZF8 doesn't add that much weight.
Jackie weighted his car at 3778lbs: https://g87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...0&postcount=48 The auto is the option to pick for extracting the maximum amount of performance from this car. |

Figures for the M3/4:
- Automatic gearbox +25kgs - Sunroof + 23kgs over the carbon roof, + 6kgs over the steel roof (only M2) - Bucket seats -10 kgs (note that the M3/4 comes with the M Sport seats as standard). https://www.bmw-m.com/en/topics/maga...ce-weight.html In Europe the sunroof is not standard and the claimed weight for the manual M2 is 1700kgs. |

Genuine question here, does shaving off 40-100 pounds do anything for the car? I feel it’s such a small percentage of the overall weight that it’s effect is negated

If they lower unsprung mass and/or center of gravity, absolutely. My goal is to lose 20lbs this summer

It depends on where and how, it could even be worse.
For example, some geniuses use to reduce weight only at the rear, which is pretty easy (titanium muffler, lithium battery, removal of the rear seats), but then you screw up the weight balance and lose a lot of grip at the rear, decreasing traction and stability at high speeds. Most of the benefits come from the reduction of unsprung weight, 30 pounds can be saved very easily; the same amount of weight saved with a titanium exhaust would not be noticeable and would probably be more expensive. |
