The energy level is great, and the information density is suprisingly high.

Couple things, he said the M2 has no competitors, is the RS3 not available in India?

Also, it's SO WEIRD to bounce between all metric and then the occasional Imperial measurement ("9.5J wheels"). I wish the US (and others) had moved fully to metric when it had the chance.

Hard to consider the RS3 a competitor:
- hatchback/4 doors sedan vs 2 doors coupe
- 4WD on a FWD based platform vs pure RWD
- 5-cylinder automatic only vs 6-cylinder manual (for the one tested)
I'm not saying that one is better than the other, but cross-shopping would mean to do very different assessments.
If you want/need 4 doors and 4WD you don't have much to choose from, as well as if you want a manual and/or RWD.

I actually agree, but simply due to lack of direct 1:1 competitors, the RS3 is usually cited as the closest. It's not too far off if you consider the along the luxury/performance axis rather than the drivetrain layout axis.

If you go along the luxury+layout axis you pretty much only have the Caddy BW4 (it has extra doors of course).

If you can live without 4 seats you've got the Supra and the cheaper Porsches.

If you ignore luxury, you can compare against American muscle coupes (Camaros, Mustangs).

If you don't need RWD, well then there are a million cars out there and the G87 is probably not what you want.

The only cars I personally cross-shopped against the G87 was the BW and the G82.

He said this is the smallest, lightest. cheapest M available. But little does he know this weight almost the exact same as an G80 M3 4 door sedan.

Just as the F87 Competition was the smallest M available at the time, and it weighed exactly the same as an M4.
