UPDATE: After using this device for a couple months I have removed it from my car. It has a bug where it stops the car from going to sleep. On two different occasions I came out to a dead battery. It’s really a shame because if not for this it was working great.
Original review: $38 device from AliExpress. It piggybacks off of the plug under the shifter. Installation is fairly straightforward. Start at the back removing the trim piece in the center console. Then pry up the back two clips. Proceed to work your way around both sides leaving the front for last. You need to go very slowly taking off the clips. The biggest PITA is the two I circled in green these are the two clips closest to the front of the car. The other clips you can pry up with a panel tool. These require you to push the pin in from the back. The last two clips took me 20 minutes alone. Go very slowly so you don't break any clips. Once you remove the panel there are 4 T8 torque screws to remove. To remove the plug from the shifter you need to push the plastic clip in and then slide the grey retaining clip down while pulling out. When you plug in the new harness make sure it is seated all the way down. When I tried it the first time it didn't work and it turns out I had not fully seated the plug. Make sure you get a good set of panel tools. I included a link to a good set. So far it works like a charm. If you have any other questions about the installation feel free to PM me. Make sure you get the one for the G20, there are two version for sale in this link. https://www.aliexpress.us/item/32568...yAdapt=glo2usa https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005066774015.html |

Wow, thanks for the most detailed install post I've seen on here to date. I am glad that it's working! The sight of all of the clips almost gave me a hernia, haha. Great job!

The green clips are a total pain, the rest is straight forward. There are so many clips, the green ones are completely pointless with the exception of making it near impossible to remove without some special BMW tool.

Agreed 100% they do nothing, the part is hanging by a thread with all the other clips removed but that damn thread is a huge PITA and can crack your whole part.

After 16 1/2 months of ownership, I have mastered PUSH On/Off button to start car immediately followed by PUSH ASS button to turn off. Works for me.

I just don’t really understand what’s so annoying or inconvenient about having to press two buttons (that are within an inch of each other) to start the car instead of one.

Nice write-up and detailed pix. Should help people that want to get this mod done.
I’ll just push the button or switch to sport/sport+ |

I am not trying to convince anyone to get this. However, probalby one of the most common things talked about on this forum is AS/S and how much people hate it. Up untill now the only option was to code Bimmercod to start your car in Sport Individual. This gives people another option. If you don’t understand the appeal I am going to say this probably isn’t for you. |

It doesn't bother me that much, who cares if your engine stops at a red light? What am I missing?
The only annoying thing for me is when I get to work and park. I pull in a spot, stop to put it in reverse to back into another spot and in this transition the engine stops for only 1 second. I wish the auto stop start was a little more intelligent. |

I don’t understand all the posts saying. “It doesn’t bother me why does it bother you? ”Or why don’t you just do this or that.”
I thought I have already been abundantly clear but apperantly I haven’t 1)This post is to share knowledge for people that might want to try this mod also 2)If you have been reading this forum for any length of time you will know that thier are many people that do not like this “feature” 3)If you are one of the people that doesn’t understand how this bothers someone then this mod isnt for you 4) I am not trying to convince anyone to get this or to be bothered by this feature if you aren’t Obviously this feature really does bother me or I wouldn’t have done this. Another thing to consider is that it may effect different people in different ways. I live in South Florida. Do you know what it’s like when your AC cuts off randomly in the middle of August? It is hysterical to me that all these people feel a need to tell me that I shouldn’t be bothered by AS/S. This may come as a shock but people have different opinions on things. I think it is insane that people get spacers on their wheels. I think it is the dumbest mod ever. I can’t tell the difference and it is something I would never do. I also know that tons of people feel the exact opposite. I dont feel a need to go on every page talking about spacers to tell people that I think it’s dumb. I understand people feel differently and move on. With that being said. I get this is an Internet forum and everyone is free to share thier opinions. However there is a big difference between sharing your opinion and saying you can’t possibly understand how someone else can have a different opinion. |

I used Bimmercode to code out ASS. But it is amazing and a little humorous the lengths we go through to not have to move our thumbs 2 inches after starting the car. Yet we have no complaint about having to start the or put on our seat bets, both of which take FAR more time, effort and movement

Again, this comes down to people having different use cases and circumstances. I drive two little kids to school every day in traffic. It would be absurd to do so in sport. |

heelsmj Ok, it's because your AC cuts off and you live in a hot climate, that's all I was looking for. No need to go crazy over a question. I wasn't criticizing your decision to do it, was just wondering what the driving factor was.

FWIW, I’ve never under stood the “inconvenience” of auto stop start, reducing the brightness of your brake lights by applying tints or making exhausts louder but to some it s apparently a thing. And it’s their thing so it must be ok. |

All that work so that only button needs to be pressed rather than two. I've had 3 BMWs with Auto Stop Start and about a week after getting the first one pressing both buttons just became a reflex. Each to their own.
Might be interesting on the warranty front if they find that box of tricks in there ...
