Square Setup for Offseason/Winter
I am looking for an economical square setup to run all season tires for late fall/winter/early spring. I want to be able to rotate the wheels to get the most of the tires and don't need anything fancy. For example on my F87 I run BimmerWorld's TA5Rs for my offseason set of wheels.
I've done some looking around by using G80/G82 as a base but didn't see much fitting the bill for a square economical wheel setup. Are there any suggestions? Will we see more options as time goes on since the G87 is still very new? |

I'm just going to switch my car to Pilot All Season 4 on OE size once the summer tires are gone, or when the first snow hits. PS4S are too expensive for street driving in Colorado. Specially when the temps drop but it's still sunny out. Lol.

Is $480 a wheel too much for you? How about Apex SM-10s, using a square setup of 275/35R19, 9.5J?

19x9J ET28 19x9.5J ET25 19x10J ET38 I think that's all the options there are for SM-10s, all the other differences are just the finish. Apex's website can sometimes be confusing, so I could be wrong. Since the G87's front wheels are 19x9.5J ET 20, the SM-10 in19x9.5J ET25 seem like a reasonable choice. I've not found anything substantially cheaper. To be honest, I'm also guessing a bit. I don't have my G87 yet, I haven't really had a chance to try out fitments. If you DO find good cheap square wheels, please let me know. I'm looking for some myself. |

824Ms would probably work. Although trying to fit 18" wheels around the G8x/G87 brake assemblies make me anxious. Very tight.
There are also 829Ms, which are supposedly recommended for winter wheels. Problem being 1) they are uuugly and 2) they are 33 lbs. One of the reasons I like the SM-10s is because they have a very simple shape. Very easy to clean, a bonus for winter wheels. |

I don't think I'd go 18 for winter wheels. Even these that supposedly fit. The clearance between the caliper and the wheel barrel is super tight and any rocks or debris that gets picked up is going to get jammed in there and damage something. And since the plan is for winter wheels why risk it.
I'd go 19x9 ET 28 as mentioned above and then find the tire that has the same rolling diameter as the stock, like 265/35R19, which would give a little more sidewall than stock. Should be able to run the same diameter maybe slightly different offset in the back.

Why not buy nice summer performance wheels and put all seasons on the stock wheels instead? That's my plan. The factory wheels are cast and extremely heavy.

That's an option but I want to be able to rotate my offseason wheels to get the most out of the tires. I am not someone who is super worried about getting weight off the car. I get that unsprung weight is very important but I'm not overly worried about getting every ounce of performance out of the car.
