Brian Makse G87 M2 Review

Brian just posted a really positive review of the new M2 on his YouTube channel. He only had the opportunity to drive the 6MT version, and he only drove it on public roads for this review. He mentions some things that other reviewers have not commented on, so it’s worth watching.

Looks fantastic with the traditional slicktop.

Very favorable review. In line with my ownership experience thus far.

"The manual is properly resolved here."

"Engineered to be part of this car."

"It works so well here."

"The shifter is just about perfect."

"The ratios are perfectly matched with it as well."

No wonder *I* couldn't find anything wrong with it.

Maybe it's because I've been driving manual cars for 35 years?

He also confirmed what I feel between the brake modes. Nice.

His closing line earned me as a subscriber, "Cars don't understeer by themselves, not even BMW M2s."

Fucking nailed it.

Though I wish slicktop was an option in USA, every time I wash and shine up my carbon fiber roof I'm glad I have it.

Meh, I like him. Maybe because he confirms my biases.

Yeah, I just watched it and that was sketchy. And to be totally fair, the thing he is describing does happen, parts are indeed routinely tweaked over the years from lessons learned and upgraded in-place.

Yes, High Pressure Fuel Pumps, I see you raising your hand.

But unless he's crawled down a parts list with a fine comb or gotten a BMW source, it's super speculative. He can say it seems improved, and he may even be right. But objective evidence would be good here.

If I had to bet, I'd say he's likely wrong. If there were perceptible upgrades to the transmission or the e-diff, I think BMW would have mentioned in pressers during the media rollout. Rather than talking about bracing on the C pillar, for example.

He mentions at the end to get the manual and adaptive cruise which can’t be had. He claims in the comments that you can get both in some cars but doesn’t say which. I’m not aware of any manual transmission cars with adaptive cruise. How does it slow down to a stop, or accelerate from a near stop to highway speeds?

My Golf R has it. It just disengages under a certain low speed. I think 20 MPH.

Corolla and GR Corolla both have adaptive cruise with M/T.

Ya my MK7.5 Golf R has manual transmission and adaptive cruise. Never once used it in this car so I wouldn't know about the disengagement speed.

Almost worth buying the car in Canada and driving it back to the U.S.

I knew he wasn’t trustworthy because he doesn’t have a British accent, but he made things worse. Where is he pulling those things out of?
Brian Makse is a long time race driver, so generally the comments he makes are based on his driving tests and reviews of the cars he mentions. He didn’t read it from some BMW press release.

I like his reviews because he comments on things that are more important to buyers who enjoy the driving experience. He doesn’t test and review boring transportation appliances that non-driving enthusiasts like to purchase.

I haven’t owned a manual car for three years and in the 200+ miles I put on the car my first weekend, the gearbox has been on the money.
