I’m back off to the 8 Series forum…much better class of people there.

And suspension that works.

And no cheap plastics.

And decent sound insulation.

Yes, definite target market then.

With BMW re-inventing itself they have a a much more logical naming/numbering scheme now that makes it easy to identify which vehicle to buy when aligned with a demographic, but more about that in a minute.

From a design perspective with the 8-Series they nailed it, adding the extra doors in the Gran Coupe made it easier to put the walking stick or Zimmer frame in the car without having to go round to the back, but for those who really need it it can easily be fitted with a tow bar for a platform to carry a mobility scooter. They also added a few swoopy lines compared with the 7-Series to make those in their 80s feel like 75 again. It also has enough headroom to wear a bonnet or flat cap or even a Fedora without taking it off when getting in, but not too high like an SUV so that the risk of breaking a hip due to a fall is minimised.

In terms of the BMW direction and model lineup, the move from "The Ultimate Driving Machine" to "Eines Für Alle" (One For Everyone or "Have I Got One For You") has led to a very logical and German naming and numbering for the target demographic (whether the target is actual or perceived):

1-Series for teens
2-Series for those in their twenties
3-Series for those in their thirties
.....
8-Series for those in their eighties

M-Series - M is for Maniac, or those who drive like one.
X-Series - X is for Tosser, or those who drive like one.
Z-Series - Z is for who knows? That's why they don't sell many and it will soon be deceased and not mess with the logical German pidgeonholing anymore.

For the numeric nnn designations such as 220, 540, etc as Clarkson would say, just know your perceived man-stick sizing (in mm).

The XM of course transcends age, as it is a fit for tossers of any age that like to drive like maniacs.

Put this all together and Voilà! (or more correctly Dort!) you can pick the exact model to fit your demographic!

I could only read your prose half way through as I am off the the orthopaedic surgeon to have my spine rebuilt after doing 22 miles in a 235i.

At least that pain will be eased by my heated/ventilated Merino leather seat, supplemented by the four zone climate control. Even getting in will be easier due to the soft close doors, no need to slam them.

Age is a bummer, huh? You may have to graduate to a Mercedes, they better the 8-Series for the Ultimate Sofa Machine.

What’s it like being a “Grandad”, an older, more mature person and still having the maturity of a 12 year old? Good god, I’m only 26 and I despise to become a shit stain of a member in any car community like you.

You’re toxic. Hop off this forum… and no we don’t want to hear about how you’re going to “Drive out of this forum with extra lumbar support” 😂

Wow you are spot on with the target demographics. I'm getting a G87 M2 because I don't need a 3 series yet.
