2024 760i Just Ordered! Need to disable ASS
I just ordered a 2024 760i and I'm super excited about it. I was going to buy an S class, but it was very hard to buy something smaller, less powerful, and less tech.
I'm troubled by the auto start/stop functionality. The idea of the car shutting off while you're driving freaks me out. If I cared about fuel economy I wouldnt be buying a 500+hp V8. How can I disable this? Will bimmercode work? |

Can’t me done unfortunately. You can put the transmission in sport mode, that’s about it. Really sucks as the car jerks quite a lot at times when the engine comes on. In stop/go traffic it’s terrible. Probably my biggest complaint about the car.

The ASS on my 760 is not jerky, even in stop and go, but I still don't like it. Setting sport so the chassis is sport turns it off. It is annoying that the car is not codable but that seems to be the way BMW wants to go.

I felt as you did, and hated the idea of ASS. I have had the car for seven months now and to my surprise, I do not even notice ASS anymore.
One detail… When we talk about sport mode we’re not talking about sport in my modes. You can eliminate ASS by putting the car in drive and then pressing the shift selector back one more time. That puts it in S gear. ASS Does not happen then. But I found the car is a bit too hyper and keeping it in drive with ASS is more a relaxing experience than keeping it in sport. That’s why I got the car… To enjoy a luxurious, relaxing, and calm ride. |

For me it’s jerky at times, especially when I’ve been sitting still for a while and the engine kicks in. Was on vacation in Europe recently and drove a mild hybrid Volvo and it was substantially smoother. Maybe it’s just my car 🤔

They are all jerky in stop and go. It just depends how much you actually "feel" from a car. When I'm with clients, I drive it like a Rolls Royce. I take my time to even release the brake pedal slowly from a stop and take my time to release the gas while traveling. That's a different level of comfort. The ASS completely shits on that style of driving.
Desperately looking to get rid of it.

The ASS gives me anxiety about buying this car. My 2016 750 allows you to disable it and remembers the setting so its not a problem. Driving my wifes X7 I find myself putting the car into neutral before making a stop to prevent it from shutting off, but with the crystal button on the 760 that isnt as easy to do. I'm hoping I find a hack like disconnecting the MH battery...or if there is a way to code the car.

My 2024 760i is coming next week and still no solution to disable the ASS. I’m freaking out about it and seriously considering not taking delivery.
Does anyone have a solution to disable it? I’m reading that it’s disabled if you’re not wearing your seatbelt. I don’t wear it anyway but have a buckle I use to silence the alarm. Is it possible to code the seatbelt chime off which would also disable the ASS when not wearing the belt? I’m so upset BMW is doing this and totally reconsidering switching to another brand altogether. |

This. I used to be in the camp of hating ASS with a passion but it just doesn't bother me now. The newer systems are hardly noticeable.

Ditto, I don't really even feel it and it was something I too was very worried about.

I didn't know what auto stop/start was, so just Googled it and found the below 34-second video of a 2023 BMW X3 that has and demonstrated it. It shows definitively a simple button press turns the feature off (or presumably on). Would not our flagship 7 Series have this same basic ability (albeit wrapped up somewhere in the 8.5 system)?
By the way and not to try and steal any of your thunder, two days ago I just ordered a 2024 myself, but in the i7 xDrive60 flavor! So I'm thinking, CONGRATULATIONS to us both!! Evidently I'm too lazy to submit a "just ordered" post but will certainly do a "just took possession of" post in December or January when "she" comes in! OP-for a $150k car why would you tolerate the inability to disable ASS? Feel like the forum of M60i early adopters is rationalizing their purchase and lack of research. I am so glad this forum on X7,X5,7er etc. is so pissed it is clearly an issue on all the 60i forums. What a dumpster fire for BMW to do this to the Utimate Driving Machine V8’s. What a Joke.
I’m keeping my GLS580 now because they have buttons and I can disable ASS with the touch of a button. And probably the S580 now too. What a miss by BMW.

For the 30 miles I put on the car none of the old tricks work to disable the ASS except going to sport mode. Sport individual doesn’t even work unless the engine is in sport mode. And it is jerky especially in a parking lot. It sucks. Some say you get used to it, maybe but always thought man can get used to anything except being hung by the neck so not sure if that changes anything. The bmw genius (who’s a moron and couldn’t answer basic questions) said there are aftermarket tuners that could be done and will put me in touch with someone who knows how to disable it. I also emailed bmw expressing my dissatisfaction with the feature. I hope they update the software for a workaround. |

I have to disagree. I’ve had mine since January and still hate it, especially when it’s hot outside as the AC doesn’t cool as well. My technique to manage this is to just pull back lightly on the shifter to go into sport mode (you can pull very lightly) when I’m at about 10-14 mph to avoid the jerky downshift to 2nd gear and as soon as I’m rolling again and back up to 5-10 mph I lightly pull the shifter again to go back into normal drive mode. It’s manageable this way but still wish there was a way to disable it.

There is probably no way BMW is going to allow disabling ASS no matter how much we complain. I am guessing they need to hit their corporate fuel economy targets. I've gotten used to it but if there was a way to disable it, I'd be there in a flash

Exactly...as the regulations get tighter, every manufacturer will be forced to do the same thing.

They should have the AC run off the 48v system like Benz does it. That way you get start stop and cool AC without the engine on. Its very useful in Florida.

Putting the car in sport mode and configuring everything to comfort and shutting DSC off does the trick. It’s annoying still but less annoying than the ASS.
I did make a complaint to bmw and they acknowledged my concerns but basically told me it’s emission control and nothing they can do. |
