Google Assistant
Does anyone know how to add Google Assistant to the long press function of the microphone button? I saw it in the list before doing a factory reset (to delete the previous owner's primary user) and now it's gone, only Alexa is there. I am using Android Auto and the Assistant works when tapping the microphone button on the screen.
On another note, is there a Discord? I realised that there isn't a lot of info online regarding some of the functions on the car and/or iDrive 8 just because it's relatively new, so I now have a bunch of questions that I could ask all at once if there was a corresponding server. |

After you've paired a car with an Android device, the option to use long-press appears in the ID8 settings.
I don't remember any more details than that, but it wasn't anything hidden. |

Yep.
Voice Control -> Long Press -> Google Assistant The option should be there as long as you have successfully paired your phone. Does Google Nav work, for example? Edit: I don't know of any Discord server for id8. |

So that didn't work... I tried removing the phone and adding it multiple times, there's even a tick box when pairing that says "long press microphone button" but it doesn't change the fact that I can't select Google Assistant in the list of additional speech assistants. Interestingly when I pressed the mic button and asked the BMW assistant "set up Google Assistant" it replied with: "Google Assistant is not available in this country." Where can I check what country it means? My BMW account is set up for UK.
PS: I have an M240i and posted in the wrong forum, maybe I should wander over to the G42 section and ask the same question? |
