Any thoughts or love on G87 M2 interior?

Hello everyone!

I just received my BSM M2 and I am genuinely impressed at how nice interior is. I agree that some materials are plastic and cost saving measures were taken, BUT when I actually drive and look around its a nice place to be.

Screen did take some time to get used to but now I like how it gives sharp contrast between manual gear knob old-school cool and new(?)school tech? haha.

Also found out that ambient lighting with M colors are pretty nice, it is bit gimmicky but it looks cool and fits the car's attitude very well. Here are some nighttime shots that I got on the day of driving back!!

I mostly like it. What I don't like about it is that is so advanced that it gives me worries on long term ownership. Planning to keep this car for 30+ years.

I hate the driver interface.

Would have much more preferred traditional dials and gauges.

Been hyping up this interior the moment it was confirmed to have iD8. Love it.

I mostly like it; not as nice as the M4, for sure, but for the price point it's fine. Would like a traditional round gauge option in the instrument cluster - that would be a simple software thing. Would've have paid extra for full Nappa or Merino leather, though I really like the Cognac interior color.
Miss the little cubby at the lower left of the dash. A couple more physical buttons, like to turn on and off the AC would be great. And for the manual to not have the NFC interface is cheap.

I agree with all of that, especially the NFC part. Not only does the missing feature suck, but what we DID get (that cubby charger) is shitty and I'm considering removing it to get some more storage.

I'll add that I also love the visibility of the greenhouse and the brightness of the cabin, a traditional BMW strength. The 40-20-40 folddown seats as a standard option is great. Heated seats are kinda weak but I think they can be coded to be hotter?

The iMax screen is stupid-huge and video game instruments are dopey. Thankfully iDrive 9 cars will have that massive center screen (nav etc) cut down to half the current size.

With Bimmercode you can set the heat level for both seats.

Love the screen. Wish I could watch DVDs on it like I could in my E92 M3.

I like the screen, took a bit to get used to BUT i really miss an ability to customize the gauges more (or make my own in photoshop etc. but that will never happen). What im not super impressed with is the center console plastic buttons and cover where the shift bits are. Compared to my previous car M140 it feels cheap. But I like the rest of interior more, even with cost cutting it feels premium.

I hate Merc/AMG interior for example, it looks like a space ship and the silver contrast makes it worse (imo), similar with Audi but that to me feels a bit better.

I've driven one and thought it was pretty nice.

Not high-end luxe, but about what I'd expect of a $65k car. Comfy, solid, mostly attractive.

I do HATE the illuminated M door panels. Beyond tacky. (Any after-market solutions for those??) And, while I'm fine with a digital instrument panel in general, the design of the speedo and tach is bafflingly bad.

Otherwise, no big complaints. 7/10.

While I really like the screens in the sense they are large and there is a lot of information, it’s a little lazy to slap a big screen onto a dash. I think it could be integrated better. But with that said, it’s bright, easy to read, responsive and the display themselves appear to be good resolution and latency.

I do wish you could customize what’s displayed in the Mmodes.

Agreed with most criticism here, I really do wish there is dedicated on/off button for climate control. Other then that, its clean and decent looking!

Another thing I noticed is, at night anti glare works on drivers side mirror and rear view mirror but not on passenger side?? Is this one of the cost cutting measure too?

The only thing I don't like is having to go into climate menu for heated seats. But I could probably forgive that if the display showed when they were on without being in the climate menu. That annoys the hell out of me (I think this is fixed in 8.5 oh well)

The rest of the interior I love. I prefer the manuals center console over the auto because piano black can die in a fire.

Whoever designed the speedo and tach should be out of a job. It is stupid not to have round traditional tech/speed as 2nd or 3rd display option. I would pay money to have a round tachometer and speedometer.

Otherwise, I really like the interior. The base interior has almost everything I wanted in a car.

I am 90% sure it does. Just like the auto climate control the heated seats are also auto. Depending on your setting (h/m/l) they come on sooner. When they are on the icon should display in the bottom bar next to the temp.

Also, my G42 has the normal, non M car door lighting that is color controlled with the other interior lights. I will miss that when going to the G87 with the m colored door lighting.

For me a subtle interior with a blend of high tech comfort and analog driving is ideal. Throw some hydrologic power steering with road feel in the G87 next to the MT and it is the perfect driving experience.

Yes, there is an icon that appears on the main display when heated seats are on.

This is why I will obtain and store away a screen ASAP.

I still struggle with the thoughts of how one would restore a "barn find" M2, for example, in 50 years.

I've mentioned this in my G87 M2 impressions thread, but I really wish there were better material options (Nappa, Merino etc.) not just the bucket merino seats.

TIL about the seat heaters, had no idea they could be automated. Turns out when I thought I was turning them on, I was just adjusting intensity and it never came on 🤦🏻‍♂️
