Break-in service early?
I'll have probably 900 or so miles on the car this week. Is it ok to schedule the break-in service a little early, or should I wait until 1,200 mi? Reason I may schedule early is I'll be home for an extended period after next week and don't want to use my local dealer. I'd prefer to try the dealer near my other residence.

I think there was a recent post about someone being turned away because they did not have enough miles yet. I think they said you had to be within 50-100 miles of 1200.

Today was the first day I put her in sport (avoiding sport+ till after break in) WOW. It’s a different car from efficient to sport. I can only imagine what after break in will be. |

I had but I started doing that only after the car is warm with oil temperature up.
I did also hit 6k rpm occasionally just because I prefer varying the rpm for the break in. (Hope this does trigger another whole conversation like those in the break-in threads). |

I’m trying not to baby her too much at this point over 600 miles while still being conscience of those parameters for health and longevity. |

I have since 12 miles on the clock. I've never driven in Comfort. Car is strong. Did that with my F87C too. It's just the throttle position that's all. Doesn't affect the break in at all. It's actually more important to engine brake to vary the RPM during that first 1200, especially after 600 miles.

Its amazing how easy it is to put a couple of hundred miles on an M car. OP, go drive the car until you get close to 1200 miles and take it in. Car is meant to be driven

And if they won't do it until I hit 1,150 mi as mentioned above, then I drive home, now I'm past that 1,300 mi mark also mentioned above. It's not like I have nothing else to do & can just go drive my car around.

I consciously would vary gears when driving normally. For example if I hit the freeway, I would bring it up to 6th but go down to 5th as long as it wasn't putting too much strain on the motor (keeping it under 6K RPM). When slowing down, I would engine brake when I could, nothing above 3K RPM. I normally drive like that as well but I was more conscious about it during the first 1200 miles. Once the motor is warmed up and you're past the 600 miles, you shouldn't have issues pushing the car a little, obviously don't redline the thing but you're not hurting your car by going over 6K RPM at that point.

The throttle mapping is a little more like the representation in this image, from what I can tell. |
