Brand new M2- oil pressure too low- s58 engine failure - oil cooler puncture

I bought a TR g87 M2 from NY and drove back to MI, but 20miles from reaching my house I got an engine oil pressure too low error, and to add to my bad luck I was in a construction zone with no shoulders to pull over, had to drive to an exit(0.5miles). And I was doing 60mph when the failure happened.

When I brought to a stop the engine idle was very rough, almost like few cylinders were not firing and I could smell oil from the exhaust smoke

I don't believe my driving has caused this failure, I followed the breakin procedure, I never went above 4k rpm, continously kept rowing between gears to vary engine load throughout my trip, kept the speed around the speed limit+10.

My assumption is the oil pump failed, and driving 0.5miles might have caused damage to the engine?

I am typing this waiting for the tow truck, I will update the thead as I hear back from the local bmw service.

Anyone heard of the s58s failing this way? What are my options here from BMW? It is bothering ne that now I have to deal with BMW and local service to get this right which is a brand new engine.

Also will BMW buy back? Since it is literally 650miles/ 1 day old?

Edit: cause found out to be oil cooler puncture

Update: the car is totaled.

Physical inspection of oil cooler recommended. Keep us posted. The root cause will definitely determine how it's handled.

Like others have mentioned it could be the engine oil cooler which is located underneath the front bumper that got damaged. If the engine was starved of oil it may need to be replaced. If they tell you the car is fine, request an engine oil analysis and also an engine compression test. And this goes without saying, nobody should attempt to start the car.

Really can that happen? Seems really poor design to have a brittle cooler exposed that can cause such a failure. Does that mean it does not come under warranty?

Huge bummer! As the others have stated, can you see any damage or spots where you may have been leaking oil and it’s burned off?

from an insurance perspective when I got my new M2 it was covered for three days under my other vehicle policy before I had to get it insured with its own policy so you may want to contact your insurance company proactively to see what your coverage might be if you haven’t insured it yet And need to file a claim. Keep us posted and good luck!

If your car has physical damage, this will be a warranty claim, very likely.

If no damage, maybe engine was defective. It happens (but extremely rarely).

Let us know what you find. Inspect under the car to see if oil leaked.
Do you mean insurance claim and not warranty?

Did you hit something, hear anything weird? It's like the oil cooler got sheared off. Either that or someone removed it.

An oil cooler screen should be mandatory on these cars with how low they are and how exposed it is. Cheap insurance from ZunSport.

Sure, I agree and have one also, but I don't even see the oil cooler in OP's post. Not sure anything would help it getting sheered off completely.

Hopefully just a bad pic. Can't imagine not knowing what happened if the entire oil cooler got ripped off. Strange things can happen I guess.

I'm equally confused. What is that a picture of? Either way, I'm extremely happy I got the Mishimoto skid plate. Sorry about your car OP.

Looks the same. The picture was taken zoomed in an awkward angle.

I mentioned that above. Looks like heavy scraping/gouging damage. Something odd happened here.

There is also a lot of distortion upwards of the middle of the panel behind the oil cooler, besides the scrapes and gouges. Besides parking blocks, I’ve had similar damage underneath before from a tyre tread of a transport truck.
