1Slow's Brooklyn Gray M2 Build- Perf Center Delivery & Matte PPF
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com After 8 month wait (deposit was put May 1, 2023) I finally took delivery of my Brooklyn Gray M2! Order history: when I first put my deposit I had spec'd out a Toronto Red Manual, almost base build but as time went on I was torn between Alpine and Brooklyn. What pushed me over the edge was Toronto looks too orange in certain lighting and I already had white car (more on that later). As for manual or automatic. I currently have two manual cars and having tried the ZF on many cars including my Supra I was pretty happy with the performance and its ability to handle high Torque without modification if I ever decided to tune. Past Cars: So why did I pick the M2? Well to give you some background.. Ive had a lot of cars in my past. Some i've owned, others I drove/spent a lot of time in due to work (company cars). For the price, I dont think there is a car with a better platform/engine combo than the M2. The Supra is a very close 2nd, after 3 years of ownership I wasnt ready to but another. I bought mine during peak COVID. I mean 10k under MSRP and had to opportunity to still sell it for a small profit after 3 years of use, so I sold it. If i had unlimited space and funds I would have kept it - great car! The M2 for lets say $6k more you get the S58, way more advanced chassis (brakes, TC, LSD, suspension ) and updated interior vs the Supra. AND you dont have to deal with scumbag Toyota dealers. The only thing I dont love about the M2 is the weight but, hey you cant have it all! 2006 S2000 (still own) 2011 328i (still own - slow track build into SpecE9x) 2023 Subaru BRZ (just sold) 2020 Supra (sold in June for the M2) 2013-2023 VW GTI (Having worked for VW/Audi/Porsche, I have basically had/drive every gen' GTI for last 10 years) 2015 and 2020 Jetta GLI 2015 & 2018 Audi S4 2014 Audi TTS 2015 & 2017 Audi S3 2018 Panamera 2019 Cayman GTS 2019 Boxster S 2020 Boxster GTS 2020 Panamera GTS 1995 325i (Track car - sold) 1990-2005 Miata (have had over 20 of these over the years) My plan had been to use the 2023 BRZ as a daily/ mostly stock track car but as most of you probably know, this car's engine had turned out to be very weak and I didnt want to go down the slipper slope of modifying a brand new $33k car into a useless track weapon. So I regrettably sold it in early December and bought a 2011 to slowly build into a SpecE9x track car. So, after 8ish months, and many delays on Dec 14th I finally took delivery of my 2024 BMW M2 at the BMW Performance Center. While the driving part was a bit short, the experience considering it was "free" was amazing. Free hotel the night before, dinner, breakfast, lunch and getting to drive their cars, including their M2 for the autox/short track was super fun. The drive home was rather boring. Let me tell you, its hard to vary speed and RPM when you have a 500 mile drive home . I am sure no major damage was done however. At Porsche we didn't even break in cars, they would often hit the track with under 100 miles. I asked the Performance center the same question - the instructors take new cars home to add SOME miles before they break them in.
What I did learn on my drive home was that at 75-80MPHthis car gets about 26/27 MPG. Compared to the Supra this was down about 5 MPG. I guess its a fair trade for about 100 HP. (mine was a 2020). Its also very quiet on the highway (insulation). The BRZ which I have been Daily Driving for the past few months was horrible in this aspect, tons of road and wind noise- you get what you pay for! My plan was to immediately take it to get PPF'd but I wasn't sure who to install it yet or what to get done. Option 1) was to get the front clip+ rockers + roof (since its CF) and rear quarters. Option 2) was to get the whole car done, cause well I was already doing 75%- so why not? AND then I saw Satin PPF like on Eduardo's M2 from this forum and FB and Dustin Williams from YT decided to bite the bullet! Overall, I would give the install a 8/10. And i'll tell you why. 1) I am super picky when it comes to paint and I notice every tiny imperfection/ cut/ seam/ dirt under film.. ect 2) on the 2023 BRZ I just sold, I had installed the front clip myself, and while it took me 2 months ( only working a few days a week at night after work) the overall quality IMO was very similar. I could just tell they started to get tired towards the end of the install and made mistakes. The good news is that the installers are local and super chill guys and in a few weeks the plan is to review and correct whatever needs fixing + ceramic coat the car. So far I am really enjoying the look of the car in Satin. It's llumar and to my eyes it looks a little darker than Xpel. It also gets substantially darker at night than I expected. Its unique, without being over the top. In the mean time I had some very minor mods to install. I'll save those for the next post but if you are follow my YT or IG you can get a good sneak peak. Clearly I'm a protection freak..
The next logical step was to add some more protection hahah 1) Adding a mesh grill to the large openings in the front bumper. So I took off the bumper and using generic aluminum mesh from amazon, cut to size grills. Overall I would rate my job a 8/10. Sadly the center one came out the worst but I'm really happy with the sides. Total cost $25? Link to Amazon Aluminum Mesh 2) Adding rock/mud guards. I have done this on all my last new cars. Sticky Tires + wide wheels/spacers means chipped up lower rockers even with PPF. So I always order this generic soft rubber mud guards from amazon and using a sharp utility knife cut to size. Then I drill holes to match the OEM holes that hold the fender liners. IMO it looks good and adds protection. This gen BMW does not have reusable push pins so I ordered some too. Total cost sub $30. Link to Amazon Mud Flap/Rock guard 3)Last but not least, the infamous oil cooler that faces down. I had a feeling this was going to be an issue and actually ordered this in November. Boy was I right, so sad to see that one forum member lose his engine to it on the first drive home. So I ordered from Southeast Coating and Fab oil cooler protector/skid plate. I like it was light, and minimalist. You don't remove any of the existing hardware (except the 10mm bolt that are too short) and there no modifications or cutting needed to do. If an object gets through this you probably would have had bigger problems to begin with anyways! If you want to order this skid plate for your G80/82/87 - Let me know! Up next - exhaust mod, ceramic coating, wheel spacer, extended wheel studs, bimmercode and finally will my Supra 19x10 square wheels work? Last edited by 1slowspec3; 01-10-2024 at 01:30 PM.. |

I have seen this video in my feed yesterday. Once I saw the protective screens, I knew you were a forum member lol. And then seeing your first post with the cars you owned, I knew I've seen your YT video

I am thinking about redoing the front center screen. Perhaps go with ABS plastic for a better look. No issues with the metal mesh, just wish it was closer to the bumper vs deeper in the inlet.

So I been doing some cosmetic updates
1) i had the front bumper redone. Its still OK. Its just a very hard car to do perfectly i guess. 2) after getting that done i decided to install an ebay spoiler, literally the cheapest one i could find to see what its all about. I figured if it sucks i can always toss it. Well turns out its not bad at all. Did take some time to ship but dor $100 i cant complain! 3) while i had the bumper off i decided to redo the front center grill. I bought abs plastic mesh grill and cut to size. This time i added it directly to the bumper vs the opening. It came out great! |

It seems they are doing away with the hotel and dinner portion 😭
I'm getting clarification as the website still shows only X cars are available. I emailed then and now all cars except Mini are available. But it said hotel not included. |

We are excited to announce that all ordered BMW models, both imports and domestic, are now eligible for Performance Center Delivery. There was an intentional and temporary pause on Performance Center Delivery for imported vehicles that was recently lifted. There is currently am update currently pending approval and deployment to the wording on the website to reflect this change. For an ordered vehicle to qualify, a reservation request must be received and processed prior to the vehicle reaching status 151. Important Notes: • Hotel accommodations are not included and customers who elect to take Performance Center Delivery are responsible for making any hotel accommodations • Reservations must be received & processed prior to a vehicle reaching Status 151 (applies to all models) The New Owner's Track Drive is a separate program from Performance Center Delivery that is provided by the Driving School. That experience does not and has never included hotel, meals, or vehicle overview. If you are still planning on purchasing an M2, please have your Client Advisor submit a reservation for the program on your behalf. They can submit the reservation as soon as the vehicle has a production number, but must be submitted before the vehicle enters production (status 151). |

Looks like your inbox is full. Question about your PCD. I’m being told and see on their site since 9/2023 it’s only Spartanburg X vehicles. I have an M3 coming in a few months and would love to do it again but I’m being told looks like it’ll remain X only for a while longer. Shoot me a PM, any insight would be appreciated.
