Frosted Grey M2
Finally came across the new color option of Frosted Grey. This one is in Downtown LA. Its good to see a few shots of what the color looks like.
Just thought some of you would like to see this as I have been looking to see a live photo of the 2 new colors available. What do you think? https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/new/se...8/NONE/DEFAULT |

Wow, great find - thanks for posting. Color looks far lighter than I was expecting though, the photos are clearly overexposed, so I would expect that.
My Frozen Grey is in production this week. |

Nice find! I didn't think any of them had been produced yet.
I may take a trip to the dealer to check it out in person. My unsolicited opinion is that matte finishes are a bit played out at the moment. I see them everywhere in LA, and it often detracts from the aesthetic of a clean car. |

I've seen a few Frosted colors in the wild. I'm not a fan. Of the ones I've seen, they just look dirty/weathered, probably from being left outside for a few days.

Yeah im not sure i want to spend the extra cash. But my buddy has the frosted Portamaio blue and its looks great. The benefits are not having to worry about swirl marks, and clay barring. Only a ceramic coat and youre good. Easy to maintain. Totally preference if thats your style or not. I opted to spend the cash on the buckets and just get the Zandfoort blue. If i had all the money in the world id choose the frozen portamao blue as well as the carbon buckets.. But thought everyone would like to see this color because i hadnt seen a live shot anywhere. And yes, it def can look different under those dealer lights. I would come see it also if i was in LA. Im in the bay.

Is it really easier to clean? I was always under the impression those finishes were harder to maintain. A traditional clear coat is what protects your paint. Its malleability is what lets you correct minor blemishes.
Does a frozen finish have a clear coat over it? I'm pretty ignorant to the specifics. |

I came to say "In before..." 1.) people opining about frozen colors 2.) people who have never owned one ranting about how impossible they are to maintain.
I see I'm half late. MineralGreyMetallic If you go, will you take/post better photos? |

Also, I'm genuinely ignorant about maintenance, which is why I asked. I'll def snap a bunch of photos if I go! Hopefully it's still there. |

It's not easier to clean. It's the same as any other car as far as washes, you just have to use a non-glossy soap. You still have to be careful. Definitely want to at least get a ceramic coat, if not ppf because you can't buff out swirl marks or scratches. The biggest issue with matte is that you can't have paint correction done to fix swirl marks, scratches, chips etc. You pretty much have to have the whole panel painted and apparently they are harder to paint match. |

For me.. In 25 years of car ownership I've had one correction (buffing) -- so I'm good with those odds.

Good insight! It is a lot harder to get swirl marks i hear, right? Getting a ceramic coat is key, thats for sure! I always hear both sides on this one. I didnt opt to pay for the frozen paint anyway. I had to make sure i got the carbon buckets. Adding paint just puts me close to M3 range, price wise.

If that's the case, then that'll be a firm no. I've never had a repaint panel matches perfectly with the rest of the original paint unfortunately... |

Yeah, they are all the same. When you start buffing a matte finish it stops being matte.

I think the frozen grey metallic looks great on the BMWs. To protect the paint correctly you would need to wrap the entire car in ppf to avoid what's been mentioned above.

Don't get me wrong.. I've smashed cars up to be sure.. But that is markedly beyond a 'paint correction' -- that is body work, sheet metal replaced, prepped, painted, etc. The sort of thing that sucks whether or not you've got glossy, matte, PPF..

It's more likely the owner is not as picky as some. Every new vehicle I've purchased (dozens) required paint correction, even those I literally watched get pulled off the truck and not detailed by the dealership. My M2 has a ton of swirls in the paint probably from the dealership's PPI.
