Great review despite him mentioning the car is a touch on the heavy side. Seeing the car gracefully dance on wet pavement shows the chassis is well sorted. The front knuckles & other various bits from the G80 CS can easily be adapted to make this G87 M2 even sharper / more connected. When he said the M2 has "a face only a mother could love" I certainly had a good chuckle at that statement. If you saw the face of the G80 M3 & compared it to that face, this car is far more attractive. To me anyway & that's just my .02 cents. Granted looks are subjective.

Spoiler: it isn't.
You don't notice the weight when driving.

Probably not too heavy... but the questionable part is how its as heavy as an M3 which is a far larger car... yea same chassis blah blah... but the heavier wheels etc and 0 effort into weight reduction on a far smaller car seem like low efforts altogether.

This was basically the same scenario with prev gen. Weight delta from F80 vs F87 was smaller than it seems it should have been.

Chris Harris said it best, "if you don't feel the weight who cares?" The faster you drive the G87 the less weight you feel as in all M cars. It's engineered that way on purpose which is why the car feels so much more planted than the F87. (Exactly why Nissan engineers stated the reason for making the GTR so heavy) Some people get so obsessed with the weight of modern cars not thinking that it's there for a reason. Also, don't forget the G87 is essentially a G82 M4 so of course they will weigh about the same since they share all the same parts.

Criticizing the looks is such a basic bitch thing to say. It tells me they prefer cars that follow the traditional wind tunnel aesthetic that plagues most manufacturers and have no eye for creativity or appreciation of the new.
The weight is there and it hides it well. No fun lost for me on canyon runs. But, I’m certain brake pad and tire wear will suffer. |

The M2 and M3 are the same width and similar height the main difference is 100mm or so longer floorpan and body metal around it (besides the extra doors), the underlying structure and mechanical components are otherwise the same. In the case of the M4, it is exactly the same width and slightly lower than the M2, the longer floorpan and larger fuel tank in that extra floorpan space is the only significant difference, adding only about 20kg in weight.

It hurts to see these jokers sitting in the press cars and bitching about the looks. "A face only a mother could love". Your face is not that different either!
Then bitching about the weight as they stay on race tracks 24/7 |

Weight matters, but it doesn’t mean it can’t be fun. The design is polarizing and I would say more negative overall than positive, but I think it’s a general groupthink against BMW, and the M2 is the least offensive of the new designs. I like the design without the M Performance parts. I will say, drive a GR86, Cayman or an Exige and you will notice the weight difference, but there is a time and place for lightweight cars and heavier high powered cars. I was guilty of defending the obscene price delta for CS, it’s worth it to some and not others. The G87 is in a rare league of great performance cars under $80K. Enjoy it. The market will dictate the value in the years to come, and maybe it won’t even matter if you plan to drive the wheels off of it. |

I don’t get the criticism of the M2 design. M3/4 definitely, but I think the new M2 is the best looking current BMW. I love the way it looks.

You know how to stop stupid reviews like this? Don't click the link and do not give them ad revenue. They do this for clickbait, don't give stupid people views and ad money.

This whole F87 vs G87 has been and is perplexing to me. But it has been fun as I continue to research and view the forums. I have an LCI F87 and love the car. I have it pretty much how I want it. Mineral Gray MT with the wheels I like etc. Somewhat miffed at BMW for releasing the 18' M240 with the B58 but let my 18' LCI with the M modded N55. I got over it.
I do feel that in the looks department, the F87 is better looking, but it is hard to fault the G87 with regard to everything else. Although I am not as "in love" with the G87 aesthetic design, it certainly does not put me off that much. You cannot argue with its performance how it is equipped and the choices you have (which were NOT available with the F87). After all, I owned and Evo 9 MR which is NOT really a good looking car, but performance was hard to beat. I drove it for 3 years and enjoyed it. So, I am trying to decide whether to get the the last year of the G87 Manuel or stay with the F87 Manuel. A Manuel IS required! At my age, this may be the last new performance car I buy. Looks aren't everything and how it makes you feel is more important from my perspective.

Quite a few sensitive to any criticism at all. This was overall a positive review and if you personally like the front design (which he says he can appreciate), then this review has little to discourage you and lots to make you smile. I enjoyed it and he knows how to throw an m car around 👍🏽
