We just had an earthquake in NJ
I haven't looked on line to see what it was yet. The whole building shook. I honestly thought the walls and ceiling were going to cave in.

Shaky, shaky. 4.8, I'm reading. Hope there isn't any damage.
Geez, earthquakes, an eclipse, swarms of cicadas...the End Times?

Got it too. 2.2 where I live. Vibration like from a huge rotational disbalance, low frequency noise, pictures on the walls moving. Neighbors going out to check what's going on.

At first I thought a truck hit the building but it shook for way to long. Bizarre feeling for sure. There were two previous quakes here. One back in the '80s maybe, I was sleeping and felt the bed vibrate slightly (waits for smart ass remarks). And one back in 2011 while I was driving but neither was like this.
Epicenter was 26 miles from me.

I experienced a few majors and a lot of minor quakes while living in San Francisco between '59 and '95. The major quakes are not fun.
A 4.8 is getting up there. Damage reports should be coming in soon if they haven't already.

Biggest I have experienced was a 7.8 when I was living in Japan. My sport bike fell damaging the faring and pictures off the walls and TV fell. Wooden structure so no real damage.
I guess my buddy felt it on the other side of town. I did not notice it. But it was reportedly felt as far away as Boston. |

We also had a 4.8 where I live, in Northern California. It sounds like this would happen, all the time, in my area, but, Im a few hours from the coast, and this isnt anywhere near the norm, for this area. I lived closer to the Bay Area in 1989, I was a teenager watching the Battle Of the Bay World Series, when the Lloma Prieta quake shook us with a 6.9 to 7.2. This was after the quake in 1989.
