NO WAY CarPlay isn't working AGAIN in my 2024

Just drove my new 2024 BMW M240i xDrive right off the lot, quite literally yesterday..and CarPlay worked perfectly, for about 100 miles.

Now, I've got the same problem as my old 2018 F22. Using a new iPhone 15 Pro, even tried an iPhone 11, but still facing the music dropouts. It's like the CarPlay pauses/music pauses and as a result it sounds like the song is 'skipping' like an 'old school' cd... horrific. To know I paid $60k and am still having the same problem as my old car, I could throw up.

Is anyone else experiencing this with a new vehicle and phone? I'm considering returning them if it can't be resolved.

What’s the fix here? Dealer is coming to pickup the car in get this, a couple weeks... "we're booked out" had no problem taking my money for the car though, the register is always open.. excuse my ranting.

Wireless CarPlay has NEVER worked well for me in any car I’ve used it in, including my F87 and my wife’s GLI. “Old” wired CarPlay works perfectly in my Golf. Good luck finding a solution, but I wouldn’t hold my breath for a fix.

If that's the case I will continue sending it back to the dealer for them to look at it and if they can't fix it they'll have to lemon law it. I will not put up with that, absolutely not after blowing $60k... sick of 'troubleshooting' the car is brand new.

Why on earth they didn’t include a wired connection to CarPlay is beyond me.
When you’re in the car, take a look on your phone at the WiFi Settings. It should be connected to the car access point.

Does the connection status spin and spin like it’s trying to make a solid connection?

It connects and works nearly flawlessly, though sometimes I have to reconnect it because it doesn't show album art or the steering wheel controls for changing songs don't work. However, the main issue (and I can even overlook the missing album art, even in this brand-new $60k vehicle) is the intermittent stop-and-start music. It stops for 1-2 seconds then continues. Now, when I'm blasting it on the $875 HK sound system option—which is just about mandatory because the hi-fi system sucks, in my opinion, and the HK is just about basic—it stops. I feel this could potentially damage or blow my speakers, going from full volume to stopping and starting again. It, of course, ruins my drive quality. I don’t speed; all I do is listen to my music. That’s all I wanted. That's why I dumped my mechanically perfect F22 because the CarPlay sucked. It wasn't the main reason, but it was like the straw that broke the camel's back in terms of kicking it to the curb and getting a car six years newer, only to have the same issue, not even 24 hours after buying it. S.A.D.

I've not experienced and audio skipping issues. I mainly stream Apple Podcasts and YouTube Music. What streaming service do you use - I suspect the issue is isolated to certain apps.

Have you tried hard-resetting your phone? I’d definitely give that a shot.

Hmmm, interesting. I never had problems with carplay other than the once in a long while stutter for a split second. And sometime connectivity is shit and I have to reconnect. Other than that it’s been fine

My CarPlay "skips" but it occurs only at specific locations, and extremely dependably. There are a few spots I have memorized near my home where I can confidently guarantee that it will skip for a moment as we pass through. Very odd IMHO.

FWIW, the issue carried over from my iPhone 11 to 15… I hoped it would disappear with the new phone but nope.

The thing is; there is no way for us to know where to point the blame. Is it a problem with BMWs software or hardware? Or did they just make the mistake of depending on a 3rd party (Apple) to keep up with the technology on their end, and now it’s making them look bad?

I have 2 cars with wireless CarPlay and they are both newer BMW. So I am unable to isolate the problem to the phone manufacturer or the car manufacturer.

Do both cars have the same issue at the same spots?

Probably stupid thought….but it couldn’t be your CarPlay map program just interrupting your music? This is really reaching…but I know Waze will interrupt the music to notify of various things. It plays a sound which makes it obvious what’s happening. But maybe if the sound in the map program is muted….MAYBE it just interrupts silently?

Definitely reaching lol.

I swear it does but now that I haven’t driven that car in 6 months, I’d rather report back in a week or 2 when I start driving it again. It’s a 22 with ID7.

I can’t speak for OP but in my case that isn’t it. When I say it skips I am being subtle. While it often only skips, sometimes it completely disconnects and drops CarPlay while passing through these trouble areas for me. These spots are all relatively small and take 5-10 seconds to travel through, out in the plain open nothing out of the ordinary nearby.

iPhone 13 mini

On occassion the volume/track controls will stop working, when this occurs I use a shortcut I created to disable and reenable Bluetooth.

The only other problem I have is it does not remember where I left off with YouTube music songs, it only does with the native iOS music app. This is very annoying and I’ve since found a way to download my entire YouTube music playlists as mp3 and I copied them to my phone for use with iOS music.

Besides these issues, it works flawlessly, there’s never an issue with wireless connection.

After much (much) trial and error I've figured out this is what is happening with me too. I have dead spots going through the downtown area where I live and it will cut out. I've also had this happen out in rural areas too. I'm assuming it's a cellular problem or something. Oddly, only *some* of the XM radio channels will work and some will not when this happens. At it's worst when i first bought the car a year or so ago it would literally kill any music until the car/idrive was restarted. Lately, it's much better and I've only had minor cut outs in my spotify. Maybe it's weather dependent because I noticed in the colder months it was worse. Since it's warmed up I haven't really had the problems.
