Accidentally bought an M2
Walked in for a scheduled maintenance on my 2019 M4 CP. See, my extended maintenance plan was expiring the next day 6/8. My thought was to get BMW to perform every possible service I could get, prior to expiration. Problem was, with 12,500, there was not a single service they would/could do. What they did see, was that I could have the spark plug/tune-up service done in 7/2024. However, that would be post expiration and cost ~$3k, out of pocket. 3 weeks, 3k. I was incensed. I did by best Karen impression, and asked for a manager. That conversation led to a conversation with the finance manager about extending my contract.
In explaining my options, which basically consisted of “victim blaming” because I hadn’t driven the car enough and ‘poor dumb b@stard’ looks because he genuinely felt bad for me, I came to the realization that regardless of which extension I got (one or two years), I was going to miss out on the “meaty” service and was just buying myself a discount on the spark plugs. I flippantly said, mostly out of frustration and lament, that if they had an M2 on the lot, I’d just trade my car in. Short story long, there’s a cherry Alpine white 2019 M4 CP with 12,500 miles, with several tasteful OEM goodies, sitting in their lot and a BSM M2, currently at my local detailer, getting ceramic, tint and PPF….. and maybe a person (who was apparently non-responsive and then subsequently went out of town) who may be a disappointed when he eventually wants to collect on that M2. I’m going to miss the M4… but also, in 2019, I went in for an M2 Comp, and they didn’t have any, and if it’s not already obvious, I can be impulsive in or around a showroom floor. So I suppose it all worked out in the end. Happy to be here! |

Mr B,
I understand your 4 was a F but I’m thinking M3, M2 or M4 xdrive vert. I’d like to hear your thoughts after you drive a bit on the M2 v your F M4. I’m leaning M2 but would love a convertible. I’m hoping you say stuff like “the 2 drives so much smaller” and “the 2 is WAY more fun on the street and feels so much nimbler” things like that. Save me 20k I’ll buy you a beer. Congrats! |

The walk to my front door was just getting my justification bulletproof for the wife. The drive to the detailer: no notes. I was floating above the car, using any sorcery I could muster to any prevent rock chips before the paint made it to safety. I will certainly update when I get it back tomorrow. |

My favorite part of the story is the self awareness regarding impulsivity in the show room.
Enjoy! |

mine is BG too and I love it. I was tempted by the BSM when I placed my order but I just can't with the upkeep on a black car. I almost went with white till I saw how flat it was in person but the maintenance on a white car is *chefs kiss*

Anyway, congrats on the new M2! Sometimes you just look for a reason to try something new. I’ve left a couple of dealers with new cars after being in for service lol. |
