ER midpipe + MAD axle-back?

How would this sound? Any different from ER midpipe (already own) + stock axle-back?

Looking to ditch the stock udder. Would the sound change at all? Still a valved solution. Any volume increase. Would it make it sound even more raspy?

Disclaimer: I don’t own the car yet, just building my parts fort.

it's going to be a little louder on comfort mode because its going through a smaller muffler and a little more louder on sport mode because more air are passing straight through

wont be raspier, the rasp is most controller by the mid-pipe not the axle back

Thanks mike@x-ph.com - if I end up getting DPs, and things are way to loud, it’s more the midpipe choice I might have to change down the road, not the axle-back, right? (Like I might need to go back to a resonated midpipe or something, but the MAD axle-back would stay as most of the added noise comes from the midpipe?)

Did you get catless or catted downpipes?

Also you currently have the downpipes only upgraded and its already too loud right?

The midpipe and the axle back will increase the volume over the stock parts. I don't have much experience with a H pipe midsection though so not sure what those sound like to be honest.

With a valve controller you will be able to fully customize how loud you want it.

We are working on a controller with oem 50% and 100% settings.

Here's a thought, get the ER J pipe and the mid-pipe installed and call it a day for a while. The total time to install is going to be like an hour and a half at most. The sound is absolutely epic. I wouldn't want to change anything. Its loud as hell in Sport+, sounds really good in Sport, and if you want to be quiet, use Comfort. Plus, you can't see the muffler on this car, unlike the F87, which looked absolutely ridiculous.

Only thing that bothers me with the stock muffler / midpipe combo is the exhaust rattle sounds aweful on cold starts. But I usually just put it in gear and roll out so it’s short lived.

I don't have a rattle on mine. Did you clamp down the midpipe all the way? Could there be anything loose? I honestly don't hear any rattle on mine, however, it is pretty damn loud in Sport on a cold start, so I may simply not hear it if it's there.
I'd do a quick check to make sure the clamps on all of the connectors (front to back) are tight. You never know.

I should have been more specific. The valves rattle bad on cold starts in comfort mode. Valves open it’s fine.

That makes sense, there's more air going through them. I never really notice because I always start mine in Sport lol.
Look, I don't hate my neighbors, I really don't. The thing just puts a smile on my face when I start it in Sport. And if the valves are left open (let's say I park it and it's in Sport+), well then it's WW3 in my garage for the first 2 seconds.

This is the way. Don't bother with the axleback, the ER midpipe sounds good on its own.

Yep same. Like you when cold starting with valves closed I drop to gear and idle out and is fine. Or you let the rattle subside after that 15 seconds or so with the garage door shut lol. Cold starting valves open no issues other than just being louder of course.

Will likely switch to the AA axle back at some point to pair to the EL mid. Oem valve control is nice, volume and tone as well and possibly eliminating the valve closed cold start rattle.

I'll say i did the ER mid pipes and in sports mode its very loud (valves open), I was joking with a friend that I was happy I did not get an axle back (muffler mod) as it might be too loud for my taste

I always recommend doing upgrades one at a time until you reach your goal.

That’s my delimma about adding the MAD cat-back to my AA equal length midpipe. Hate the big “diaper” muffler but it’s expensive in terms of an aesthetic mod. Since the muffler itself doesn’t change the exhaust volume much.

The muffler will noticeably change the sound, I dont know why some say it does not but I dont agree with it.

If you already have an equal length, why get a catback? get the MAD axle back instead

I misspoke. I meant adding the MAD axle back. And out of DP / Midpipe / axle-back, it does the least in terms of loudness correct?

Edit: I guess another hesitation if I add downpipes the system as a whole will be too much.

100% this, my car isn't a dedicated track car yet so I still need to drive on the streets. With the valves closed I don't feel like I am a nuisance to others (until I see a tunnel or underpass ) but I was actually shocked how much removing the secondary cats and resonators changed the volume*.
