Okay so been an owner for about a year now, but never taken my car into bumpy territory.

I was in Los Angeles last night and my buddy convinced me to take cold water canyon. Insanely bumpy uneven cement with some massive potholes. Had me, and 2 friends weighing the car down.

Did not go fast over bumps but couldn’t hold up traffic crawling over them either. All I can say was what a F’ing bumpy ride that was! Especially with 3 people.

I’m currently on H&R VTF and BBS LM’s 20’ all around. So I suppose that did not help either. There was never one specific incident where I went “oh sht” but the whole drive was terrible.

My question is, is it possible just from normal driving through gross terrain and trying my best to avoid major potholes, could I have damaged my springs or subframe/bent anything? As I said, I wasn’t racing through and trying my best but there was some loud slams. I’m also worried maybe a bent BBS wheel slightly even if forged? From the naked eye there is nothing wrong.

I am not sure how much abuse the car can take before it becomes worrisome. I haven’t noticed anything off besides maybe my alignment. Just a bit paranoid after that whole episode. I’d hate to have to get new springs or anything else.

Shouldn't be anything to worry over unless you bottomed out really hard onto the bump stops. Typically, that's when you hear the 'crashing noise'. Even then it's usually not a concern. If you really want to know if there was any damage remove each wheel and inspect the inside barrel to see if it bent any wheel. While the wheel is off visually inspect your struts/shocks for any leaks which would indicate a blown strut/shock.

Yeah no bottoming out, just tons of bumps and rocking everywhere. Ya I’m sure there is no damage, but I have no clue how sensitive the inner workings of the struts and shocks would be. I assume pretty durable but you never know with lowering springs.

I’ll likely inspect them Monday, thanks!

Have the wheels checked out. I ended up bending 3 wheels on my Z06 driving through Nashville at night & not seeing the minefield of potholes. My alignment was jacked up, but all the suspension components were fine. Ended up a very costly trip as oem wheels for my car are not available so I had to spring for a new set of aftermarket forged wheels.

Yeah I can already feel my alignment off a bit. I’ll likely check the wheels out Monday. I don’t think it was rough enough to mess the suspension up, but my wheels are for sure up for some inspection.

Were your bends on your Z06 noticeable to the eye from the front or did you take them off to view?

The shake in the steering wheel was so bad I had to take the car to a tire shop who removed & spun them. They were able to balance them well enough so I could drive back to TX from KY.

i am pretty low on AST HAS and some aftermarket 20 inch wheels. some springs ride better than others and i lasts felt HR was a bit stiff for my liking.

that being said rough roads are rough but as expected even with stock suspension.

Assuming no damage to the rims, alignment would be my biggest concern. As a comparison, the most common thing people drive over that throw the alignment off are train tracks.

Yeah I’ll likely need a new alignment. I can’t visually see or feel any rim damage which is a good sign. The only thing I feel is my tracking beers to the right a tad bit more.

Will do an inspection during alignment to make sure all is well. Rough roads suck lol.

Hopefully rims are good. Benefit of going with a high quality rim is structure/strength.

This is one of my main motivations to move to 19 inch square, and I have even considered 18 square. Just more sidewall to take out some of the worst bumps.

It’s not a bad idea by any means. I chose 20’s due to looks. But performance id probably do 19’s or 18’s.

It’s fine on smooth to somewhat smooth roads and handling is great. You’ll run into trouble if you have rough terrain roads or just a ton of potholes and broken concrete near you. But I feel like that’s the typical with any lowering springs.
