10k markup on new M2
Went to look and test drive a new M2 with MSRP of $71k. Dealer marked it up by $10k. Needless to say I took a hard pass and didn’t even test drive it. That was disgusting!

That's disgusting nowadays! It reminded me of a SoCal Audi dealer doing my daughter a favor for $8k over sticker on a slot to order the RS3, and that was Nov 2022. I told her to look at the G42, and ended up ordering her one for $500 off + $500 BMWCCA cash.

Silliness on that markup. There is a brand new 2024 in alpine white priced at sticker a few miles from my house and lightly optioned priced at 65,500. What's crazy though is there is a used 2024 with 4500 miles, original msrp of 66K and the asking price is 69,900 at another dealer 30 minutes away. Perhaps an uninformed buyer really wanting an M2 might think they are getting a deal on a used one? Maybe there are a couple gold bars in the trunk? It's just weird.
This week I did an appraisal on KBB for my car. Original sticker price was 68,500 and KBB gave me a 69 to 71K value for private party sale. I wonder what people are really getting paid for their lightly used M2's.

If I was going to buy a used M2 it probably would have been an F87. |

The dealer is entitled to his opinion but you are entitled to one too. It doesn't have to agree with the dealer's opinion. The best reaction to a markup is to not react to it. Your market price research should have you armed with knowledge of what cars are going for. If you decide to attempt to buy the car then you offer your price, your opinion. And to the sales manager not the salesman. He wants to sell the car at $10K over sticker. The sales manager would like to too, but he wants to sell the car. And at sticker (or maybe if your market research supports this) even below sticker. However, I would probably not bother to submit my opinion on price to a dealer who puts a $10K markup on a car that is selling for MSRP (or in some cases below MSRP (and I bought my 2023 M2 in April 2023 for sticker) but rather shop around. You live in northern CA and there are a number of dealers around. |

I probably still would have pursued an F87 but I wanted to easily turn off auto-rev-match without risking modding software where an SA would question it regarding warranty (overly paranoid maybe but I also never disliked the G87 styling either haha) |
