IMO/educated guess it’s a myth, you can blow through the artificial rev limiter, which it does when cold also. It’s just oil/filter and differential fluid change. Then hooking it up to the computer to remove the break in service warning message. Which, also documents it with BMW that the owner had it done and at what mileage.
It’s long been debated here whether a true M (S) motor is detuned prior to break in service or not. You’ll get opinions/supposed facts from everyone, even long time BMW employees. Me personally, I don’t think it is, it’s full power from the start and break in service does nothing power wise. Last edited by minn19; 09-09-2024 at 09:41 PM.. |

It's definitely full power from the start, it would be impossible to keep that secret. There are two–and only two–possible scenarios, a) there is an elite group of 3 BMW mechanics who travel around flashing ECUs when people come in for the break-in service, keeping the secret on pain of death, or b) some employee somewhere would have broken their NDA and spilt the beans long ago.

Poor, poor horsey.
Please use the search feature, it has been discussed so many times its nauseating (to say nothing for the posts of people who have put the car on the dyno without a breakin service and figures show full power). |

This plus we’ve seen dynos that show no/minimal change before and after break in service. Funny this came up today, I just had my service done this morning. It feels way more responsive/powerful now. |

i have driven a couple used g87 and g80 before purchasing my new g87. it definitely feels like some power is being head back but my butt dyno doesn’t hold much weight around here. in comfort mode my shifts no matter what shift before 5k. Sport i can get it above 5
it’s taking me forever to get to 1200. i have a slew of parts waiting to be installed |

Men will want to be you and women will want to birth your children, obviously.
