I was looking to buy another car but heard engine noise. Any thoughts?

That could very well be a blown rod bearing, as the tapping/rattling gets worse when revs rise.
But it could also be something like broken vibration damper (on the belt drive side). If the rubber damping inside that tears, it can also produce that rattling noise at certain rpm's
Anyway, don't drive with it and let a competent mechanic listen at it with an engine stethoscope. Should be easy to diagnose.
But I fear rodknock....
