How Do "Individual Colors" Work For M2? Real Lead Times?
Have a build into a dealer for a 2025 Voodoo Blue M2. I have discussed with a handful of dealers in the Northeast and getting a straight answer on order time or even the process for ordering an individual color has been frustrating. with answers ranging from 9 months to 3 months.
To make matters more complex I would like a few port installed options and PC Delivery Given that we are just getting to winter I really don't want to take delivery until March or April 2025 at the soonest. Found an amazing dealer out of the area with no issues getting an allocation and was told to wait until December or Jan to actually submit the order as it would only take 3 months. Told a local dealer I was all set and they gave me a line that there was no way a dealer could get a Individual Color M2 in 3 months and that there is no way it would take less than 6 if placing an order in December. I have ZERO reason to doubt the dealer I'm going with as the referral came with the highest of confidence and authority - but I have also never ordered a BMW before and would be super bummed to end up not taking delivery until July or something Anyone have any advice? |

I got an allocation for my Voodoo mid-August, and I have a week 7 2025 build according to genius. I'm expecting to get the car in either late March or sometime in April. So yeah, about 7-9 months.

It really depends on timing.
They don't paint a single car in an individual color. They batch them So a lot will depend on when you get in the queue. If you get in the queue when they have enough cars to batch an individual color it is possible to get one quick. If you are the first person to get an allocation after they built a bunch of individual your color, the wait can be long. If it's a popular individual color the wait is shorter. But to be honest nobody knows what the wait is, they can only look at history and how often they end up batching a particular color. Even some colors that are "standard" can have a 9-12 week wait time. Tanzanite II is not an individual color for the i4 and M4 but can delay a car up to 12 weeks.

I’m in the same boat.
Can you edit this thread to make a poll? I'm curious who is waiting for one of the 4 special colors, coming to the US and maybe we can figure out a pattern or see what the cutoff is. My CA said sometime this month it would go into production but I can wait. 9 months is longer than I expected as I did want it in March/April but I can wait.

Allocation reserved 3rd week of August for Grigio Telesto and BMW Genius says week 7 (2nd week of Feb '25) for build. Personally not in a rush (save more for down payment) and really didnt want a winter delivery anyway so I dont mind.

Hopefully I get batched with you. I'm also not in a rush, placed the order oct 22nd and I think the special order color was updated on the 24th. End of March/April would be great for the wallet lol.

The poster who mentioned batching of colors was spot on. All the variables he mentioned need to be incorporated into timing.
There are two other wild card spots. - time between when it is built in Mexico and when it is trucked to the port. Similar to the batching for paint; they batch the cars for ships so the car can wait here anywhere from a few days to a few weeks even. - port installed options. Idk if there is anything precise but I’d add 2 weeks here, maybe 3 to catch a ride who knows. Funny that my individual voodoo blue went into production just today. Deposit / Allocation - July 11th Production - November 12th 4 months so far almost exactly. I’ve been watching this topic from the beginning, I had 2023 deposit and cancelled when ZB was the only color of any interest to me. With all that, reasonable timing currently seems to be 6-7 months. Maybe it would get better at some point, but anyone telling you 4 months or less is just guessing that production of individuals will increase. Place the order before Christmas for sure. |

Additionally I have and end point of "Build Start" as I am not trying to measure delivery, QC, boat rides, port options, of PC Delivery as part of the equation, I am only trying to measure how much adding an Individual color adds to the known production lead time of an M2 Let me know if you think I have this wrong |

I was more asking about those with an allocation but don't have a production date.
What color they have and how long they have been waiting. I was looking for a rough count of how many pending orders for each color. Real data would be for orders already produced to see what color, the wait time and the date they went into production. That way we can see if it's like 5/10/30 cars needed before they start them on the line. I guess we really can't know anything unless we had a big boss in here to tell us they wait for x of a specific color and then wait x time to put them all on the same line. But what you have will give us a good idea of the wait time |

Specifically for the Poll question I got my Production Number July 25th. I then "Entered Production" on OCT 24th. So 3 Months for Production # to VIN #.
That being said it took over a month to get a Production number after I put down my deposit and now I am stuck in Final Assembly for over a week and a half. My expected delivery should be a total of 6-7 months from Deposit to car |

Sorry for the dumb question - I have never ordered a BMW before. Where is the best place to find status number explanations?

Also if you use Chrome you can install this extension to see more data and the actual status code. I do not think it shows unless you have it. https://chromewebstore.google.com/de...gcjajoeodfpfon
