When I purchased my new '24 M240i in July, it came with 3 years unlimited oil changes at a $250.00 cost, that's a deal right? So at 2K miles I went to get the oil changed because I've done this with every vehicle I've ever owned, especially because I drive them pretty hard.

When I arrive at the stealership to check-in they tell me it's too soon, and I'd have pay out of pocket. So much for unlimited, what they really should say is 10,000 miles or annually. If I am physically limited to there program it is not a great deal at $250.00 in my opinion.

Anyone else find this weird, or have experienced this?

Common sense should have told you that “ 3 years unlimited oil changes at a $250.00 cost” was not the case when an oil service (UK equivalent) is around $400.

I'm guessing that they meant for it to read "unlimited mileage"? IOW, if you put a lot of miles on your car you might exceed the 36K mileage limit before the 3 years it up so for an extra $250 you can have unlimited miles in that same 3 year period. Not the same as bringing it in whenever you want - it still needs to fall within the owner's manual recommended maintenance interval.

No doubt BMW actuaries made that offer after determining that it's unlikely the original owner will still own the vehicle and won't use the unlimited oil changes.

I never buy any of those packages for reasons like this. BMW wouldnt offer it if the house didnt win. In my experience its cheaper to just pay to play as you need vs buying these maintence plans.

It also says “ The need for included services are prompted by the vehicle’s Condition Based Service (CBS) system”
So it means as many oil changes as required, dictated by the CBS, when you vehicle is over 60k miles or 5 years old and under 20 years old.

Seems pretty clear.


The question should be why did your dealer sell it to you when it’s not applicable to your vehicle - yet.

I haven’t really looked at the US offerings because I can’t see the prices but in the UK the packages are absolutely worth it.

A dealership cannot enroll an ineligible vehicle (<6 years old or <60,000 odometer miles, or 20+ model years old) in the UC 3-Year Oil Service plan, so an owner has no agreement to sign to support paying $225.

The oil change plan is a good deal once out of warranty and when doing a lot of miles. I had it on my M235 and got 5 oil changes out of it in 3 years due to mileage. Considering the plan was at the time $199 and each oil change would have been for about $100 it made a lot of sense in my use case.

Basically, you paid them $250 to have yearly changes (indicated by the car service schedule) once the car hits 60,000 miles, even though the car brand new already comes with free annual oil changes for 3 yrs / 36k miles.

To get value out of your plan, you would need to drive 60k miles in your first year of ownership at minimum

Anyways, what most people do is change oil on their own and not reset the mileage to get the free service. I personally do every 6 months that way the car gets a biannual oil change, with one for free. Once your plan is expired then you're on your own

I didnt use any of the free oil changes that came with the purchase of the car. Id rather spend the $70 every 5K miles and do it myself than do the oil changes based on BMW’s 10K rules. Can I have took advantage of the BMW paid changes between my DIY changes @ 5K, yeah, but Id rather just buy an oil change package from FCP euro and do the change myself than sit at the dealership for an hour waiting for the service.
